What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Dear Stu,
This is one of the fantastic recordings. Perfect implementaion of pure EMI Blumlien stereo technique, which one figure of eight microphone judiciously used in the nigh perfect acoustic of the big Abbey Road studio, but others worth considering, specially musically, are R-'s open premiere recording in Prague with the Czech Phil [Suprafon CD recorded in 1950's mono in the Dvorak Hall or Rudolfinium as it was styled under the Communists]] under Vaclav Talich, and also the unfortunately neglected set of Pierre Fournier with the Philharmonia for HMV in 1947 [Abbey Road again] on Testament CD, or 78s if you can find them!

I sometimes neglect this disc (in favor of Rostapovitch's playing the Bach suites) but eventually I come back to it and play it in the presence of my wife who can never have enough of this music.
Regards,
Haim

I was lucky enough to see her live at St Georges in Bristol a couple of years back. Nice.

I've very recently got this, following a good review in a paper. I'd never heard of Misha Alperin, but I like Anja Lechner's cello playing from a Dino Saluzzi album I've got. I don't know if this is classical or jazz, but whatever it is, it's really very good.
