What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

oldnslow...you may not want to hear this but the MPS SACD re-issues are stereo and WILL play in a CD player because they have a pure CD layer.quote:I note they are available in Super Audio CDs too, though I do not have ability to play those. I love the London House recordings too, even if the sound is pretty poor.
I have SACD BUT I listen to the CD layer on these because they are better through the CDS3 by a large margin than the SACD layer fed to the 552 from a Sony player.
Another nail in the coffin for SACD

Geoff

Bossa Nostra - Solaria
This is one for Gianluigi.
Italian Jazz that I picked up from an Italian DJ whilst on a skiing holiday in Zermatt a few years ago. Swapped for a copy of Down To The Bone - From Manhattan To Staten (Subsequently replaced).
I know nothing about the group at all but this has got some good stuff on it.

I started a thred asking abou Weather Report some time back and from this I Bought 3 albums,
Mysterious Ways, Black Market and this Heavy Weather.
I have not listened to Black market yet but Mysterious Ways and Heavy weather are fantastic albums. I don't know how I could have so comprehensively missed out on them at the time, but then by doing so I have this great pleasure now.
As Fred Simon said in the above mentioned thread Wather Report have made some of the greatest music ever made.

One of the best albums of the 70's that captured Ron Carter, Herbie Hancock, Freddie Hubbard, Tony Williams and Wayne Shorter at the top of their game. This was Miles' group from the mid 60's reunited with Freddie on the trumpet. One of my favorites!

I'll second that. Great record. VSOPII, where they replaced Freddie Hubbard with Winton Marsalis was very ordinary though
