What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Jazz samples on the computer
My 2nd hand mint CD5 arrived on Thursday and is sat under my bed waiting for my very poorly 160 to return recapped and as good as new.

This is a wondeful Tom Waits tribute album that I bought second hand in one of the far too many record shops that have dissappeared in Dublin (Caroline Records).
Violent Femmes do a wacky version of Step Right Up,
These Immortal Souls, a groovy version of You can't unring a bell,
but if I were a cool DJ on some radio show the one I'd throw in the mix to keep my coolness would be Jersey Girl by Pale Saints

What the heck does Tim Buckley cover? It can't be very recent
Bruce does a good version of Jersey Girl on here, as well as on many other less available recordings.

Yeah, that one got me scrunitising the insert allright. Most of the tracks are from 1995 but Tim Buckley does a version of Martha from 1973.

This is a great album isn't it?
I was only listening to it a week or so ago.
I still remember the general incomprehension in Ireland when "The Fly" was originally released as a single and U2 left behind the "hottest ticket in rock" Time cover days and embraced Europe. What a change of direction after 10 years!

Yes.
You're right.
That's the album i use to play on my trips to Denmark.
Perfect for germans motorways!
Cheers

Act II of Die Walkure, Solti and the VPO (though I suppose I really ought to steer clear of Wagner for the moment since there's going to be something of an overload on R3 in a week.

Thanks Geoff.
I quite like Miller, I have his album M2. Of course, I know him in the first instance from his days as a Miles Davis sideman (which is normally reason enough to buy a record).

Al Green Greatest hits from the era when demon records had the Hi back catologue and you could buy them mail order through "Blackmail". I I picked up a few soul classics from this association.
Amazing verion of a bee Gees Song, how can you mend a broken heart on here.
It's sometimes amazing what a good soul interpration can do for a song.
