What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Some wondeful stuff here.
I prefer the blues tinged numbers.

Just got my hands on a mint vinyl copy of 'Transformer' by Lou Reed after losing my original copy some years ago.

Mahler symphony no.5, Walter and the NY Phil. Remembering why I rarely dust off this record (if only he'd slow down a little).

SF Sorrow on vinyl followed by SF Sorrow on CD through the 282/200/nSats - the CD sounds better and it never used to through the Nait5i/nSats.
I'll try some classical music tomorrow to see if this new found preference for CD persits.

Carol King: Rhymes & Reasons
'stand by me'. One of my favourite to listen to and play on the piano.
Her voice is comforting and soothing after the long week.

Alexander Lonquich / Plainte Calme / ECM
Three generations of French composers played on the piano of Alexander Lonquich.
Interesting arrangement of the music. Faure's Impromptus open and close the disc as well as seperate Messiaen's piano preludes and Maurice Ravel's Gaspard de la nuit. Excellent.

For the 3rd time in a row. Can't believe how beautiful this 1992 recording is. Brahem leaves all the necessary space to his co-players (on some songs completely without him, even), the best one being the title track.
Or, ist it the Maggies that make this SO enjoyable ?
Haim ! Where art thou ? Elections are over. You need to listen to this !
cheers
Stefan
Stefan,
Got back two days ago and listening now to the Conte de l'incroyable amour. Thank you for reminding me of this neglected CD. I heard Brahem live in Chicago, though he was playing with Erkose & Hosni the music of Cafe Astrakan. A magnificent performance.
How do you like the Maggies and what happend to the Gipfels?
Best regards,
Haim

Dusted off this one on vinyl. Not Bad but Texas Flood is better IMO.
