What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

What great taste from a man from the county of Caravan and the Soft Machine (two of our finest). Always thought the Prunes were great and Too much to dream is one of my favourite tracks on the Nuggets collection - next to Strawberry Alarm Clock.
What other gems do you have?

Easter Everywhere by the 13th Floor Elevators. and The clown died in Marvin Gardens by Beacon Street Union. My local indie retailer has a fine collection of brand new audiophile pressings of rare and obscure Garage and Psychedelic records.

Louis Vierne 24 Pièce de Fantasaisie
Ben van Oosten
Cavaillé-Coll-Organ Saint-Ouen, Rouen
MDG Gold 2CD set with Vierne booklet
Edit: Can't recommend it. No real bass from start to finish. I keep wondering if my subwoofer is broken!

Charles Lloyd quartet - Jumping the creek: Fabulous. Don't get confused: After you have survived "ne me quitte pas", it's one of the densest CD's he's done for ECM...

Jade Warrior, Kites ... a spare, Zen-like experience; beautiful and deep. Not "New Age" at all. This (along with their classic, Floating World), is that rare album which sounds outside of time, like Dark Side of the Moon.

No, kuma, not yet. But browsing through the Forum, I think "Jazz" is worth having.
Hey! That would be the first music we'd agree on, kuma...

(and this is my 999th post...)
cheers

(currently listening to Biondini / Girotto - Terra Madre: Where I stopped yesterday night, there were 4 more gems to be listened to. No regrets...)

A compilation of EMI classics with Yehudi Menuhin (Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Paganini)
Tribute (first CD) - Keith Jarrett et.al.
Kind of Blue - Miles Davis et.al.
Italian Oboe Concertos on Naxos label.

) before my LP12 comes back finalised from the shop.

Also, his ST work like Paris Texas or Crossroads are worth having.

I am not a hard-core Cooder fan, but few pieces I have them both on vinyl and CDs.

Mark,
Me too. I've listened to the music with my widget CDS3 last nite for a change.
Funny, how the perspective shifts. With an addition of the Ittok, now I think that the CDS3 has a one up over the LP12. I don't think that would be the case with your uber LP12 ,tho.

p.s. now cueing E,W & F's Powerlight : Side by side.
