What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Last night I listened to Emmy Lou Harris' Grevious Angel a tribute album she put to gether with other artists of Gram Parson's songs, Dylan's Blood on the Tracks, Clapton's Mr Johnson and Me, Ricki Lee Jones' Flying Cowboys, Joni Mitchell's Hissing of Summer Lawns. Then it was midnight and I went to bed. All CDs, didn't get into the vinyl thing.

My favorite of the whole 1990's.

"Sir Rockaby" sung to my newly born with tears in my ear and a gladness and wonder in my heart.

Anyone else here into the genius that is Charles Thompson II?

Can't take the puck off this one at the moment,

Tonight it's more like Frank's "Blonde on Blonde"

Marvelous

Earlier, more Jochum Beethoven (2, 3 and 4, three was particularly fine actually, and I may have to revise what I said earlier to Fredrik about none of these accounts being favourites).

Now:

Pink Floyd - The Division Bell

The Look of Love, the Burt Bacharach collection. I got to know Bacharach's music long ago by browsing through the record collection of a close aunt who'll be turning 80 next week.
I got one Kathleen Ferrier record from her. Bought Brubeck's 'Time Out' myself, later on.

Biber / Muffat / Der Turken Anmarsch / John Holloway / ECM

John Holloway, violin
Aloysia Assebbaum, organ
Lars Ulrik Mortensen, harpsicord

A great group recording together for the last time in 2002 (they have three ECM recortdings), before the death of Alosyia Assenbaum.
