What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Baremboim and the BPO playing concertos 11-13.

What an horrible pic!
Olivier Messiaen - Complete organ music vol.2

Gianluigi,

Have you heard any of Jennifer Bate's recordings of Messiaen's organ work (which are wonderful, and dirt cheap to boot). She made the premier performance and recording of Livre du Saint Sacrement.

regards, Tam

Hi Tam!
Sorry but not!
Anyway there's a list i'm writing following Fredrik, Haim, Timnaim, some other guys and your choices i read everyday.
I mean not a real complete, organic list of works.
I think i'm very eclectic about music.
Some records are written there to be got, but i have a problem with my credit card and a cds' order i placed in a german on line shop more than a month ago (!).
Before ordering other cds i want this problem to be solved.
Then i'll get something new for sure and i'll try to get Mrs. Bates recording.
My friend and i like to compare recordings when we can.
So thank you a lot for suggestion!
Cheers
Gianluigi

That one is the best (together with Trinity sessions) ! I only have it on vinyl, but unfortunately no deck...

I have this on LP back when it first came out. Around 78-79 if memory serves. One of here best IMO, and I'm a huge Carly fan.

Some Bach for Sunday morning, before riding the tractor and cutting the grass for the first time this spring.

Stefan,

You don't have an LP player? You can always bring over the cautious horses over here, and we could listen to it on the LP 12, after I cut the grass of course.

This is what i call a perfect sunday!
I'm still pruning some trees and in a couple of days things will be ok for the rebirth of nature.
Have a nice evening Haim!

Gianluigi,

Thanks. Actually it turned to be cloudy and very windy but I still have to deal with that rebirth of nature. What kind of trees are you pruning?

Have a good night,

Haim

Gwyneth Herbert:
'Bitter Sweet and Blue'.

Picked up in HMV yesterday for 5.99 in their sale. Good modern recording of jazz standards.
3.5 stars out of 5 (just to contradict a recent topic on the forum). Laid back style rather than hot and sleazy.

Tempting, Haim, very tempting...

I've just returned from a nice trip to Holland, a few hours ago, so I'm afraid, it's gonna be late, so take your time with the tractor !

Meanwhile, the fabulous:

OK, I know I'm biased (Lloyd), but he's been getting better and better, the older he gets. Wonderful tunes.

Before: (a little disappointing purchase)

Interesting, have to spin it more than once:

cheers

Jack.

I think it's a '77 release.
I remember how striking this album cover looked back then.
Another favourite is The Torch. I gotta get a hold of it in vinyl again.

I am not a huge fan of female voices ( most of them sound like chipmunks to me ), but Carly is great.

Hi again Haim!
Tomorrow i'll take a closer look to the trees and help my father for last finishings.
Here we have peach trees, black and golden plums trees, pears, cherry, apples.
Next year we'll try with apricoats as well.
And all my mother's plants which are the larger part of the job.
Sometimes the "director" is hard to stand, but................she loves them so i must "shut up" and follow!
Smile
Goodnight to you as well Haim!
Cheers

This, too also, was released in '77.
Now fast forward to '85.
