What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Hawkwind's live Space Ritual, but not at the recommended ear and nose bleeding volume. Those chaps could actually play, which comes as a bit of a surprise.

Haven't listened to Orgone Accumulator for years, must dig it out - all the early Wind stuff was excellent.

Not expecting any kudos for this, but am now listening to Best of No Doubt (after Hawkwind FFS!). So am now trying to work out a strategy for prising Gwen away from Gavin (ex-Bush) for a casual drink, and maybe more, some evening in London.
Dream on, sad b*st*rd that I am.

Graham55 - Is that Hawkwind compilation Eclipse a worthy starter for one with no Hawkwind in their collection?
p.s. my sad b*st*rd dreams involve Stacia...

If I could only have one Hawkwind album in my collection then it would be Warrior at the Edge of Time. However, Space Ritual Alive would be another good choice.

I'd say yes - it's a good intro to them but also get Space Ritual the biggest surprise was how well Lemmy could play!!!

Mozart Piano Concerto Nr 14 in E flat, KV 449.
Rudolf Serkin with the the Busch Chamber Players led by the unique Adolph Busch. If ever there was a model performance! And next up is the Adagio and Fugue, so I must sign off quickly!

I'd suggest that In Search of Space and Space Ritual are the best of Hawkwind. So I'd get those and not worry about compilations.

Both great albums - particularly like We Took The Wrong Step Years Ago which never seems to appear on a compilation.
How do you rate Warrior at the Edge of Time?

PS - Any views on Captain Lockheed & the Starfighters?
