What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Thank you Stefan, a great way to start a week-end.

I've probably said this before, but... "Magico" is amongst my top-10 albums, and I have it from when it was released (first on LP, even).
Peace (nobody says "Peace" anymore in Germany - unfortunately. But when it was common, it was the English word. German word for it would be Frieden)

Just been listening to the Now Show on Radio 4. Up next, possibly some Brahms (several new recordings have turned up from Amazon this morning along with Rattle's CBSO Mahler 3).

Corelli / Violin Sonatas Op. 5 / Harmonia mundi
Andrew Manze, violin
Richard Egarr, harpsicord
The twelve sonatas were published on January 1, 1700, just as the century turned. The original score had only hints of how Corelli expected the music to be played, and it left a lot of room for freedom and spontaneous embelishments to the musicians. Manze and Egarr perform brilliantly.

A very fine blues outfit, comprising of various past members of the legendary Groundhogs, "Nine tracks of bluesy rock with psychedelic touches and the odd slide guitar flourish ... Includes a 100 mph version of 'Baby Please Don't Go'..."
[The founder of the 'Hogs - Tony (T.S.) McPhee - can be found playing acoustic blues with Joanna Deacon these days, but if he's on the same billing with Egypt you can usually be guaranteed a run through some of the old Groundhogs numbers that are the stuff of legends, Eccentric Man, Split, Cherry Red.
It's very much worth catching either/both Egypt and/or Tony McPhee if you can.

Chopin / Nocturnes / Ivan Moravec, piano / Nonesuch
Night music that works very well with a gray rainy afternoon. Disc two is playing now for the second time.

coudl pick up Kate Bush "Aerial" for 10 EUR, today. Hmhh, all that hype, a few months ago. I was sort aof her fan, 20 years ago, but think an artist should develop over time.
also: Johnny Cash (Folsom and St. Quentin in a box...). Repertoire...
May report later about
From first impressions could be interestign fro you, Haim.
Peace

Christine Collister - Love
I bought this for Lori a month or so back, tonight was my first night listening to it.
I was a bit disappointed really.
I found it a bit one paced and lifeless.
Her voice is sweet though but the album just didn't draw me in.

Kleiber conducting Schubert 8, Brahms 4 and exerts from Tristan (based on Grahams recommendation). Only listened to the Schubert so far which I'm finding slighter mannered and a little on the slow side.
