What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

sorry, I beg to differ - torture is 2 weeks on the road with no tunes. Even with £20 headphones it is not sooo bad.
Rip the music at 192k and try it - I think you'll be surprised. My nomad mp3 player, gets heavy use when I'm away from home - having 100s of CDs at one's fingertips is a godsend. IMHO of course.

Hi Ian!
Sorry again but really i can't stand mp3.
Of course, when you have nothing better.......on the road or in a hotel........
But i find mp3 boring with no soul.
Cheers!

Get a Meier Porta Corda with USB, add a set of etymotic ER-4 'phones and you'll be pleasantly surprised by what your laptop and MP3s or AAC files are capable of.
Currently enjoying my fave pop CD of the year to date

Part has his own way to keep the music on.
I don't like modern composers so much except some like Reich, Glass and few others.
Religious music per se is hardly listened, but the silk of this and other records that came from his production makes my listenings a pleasure.
Silky, moving but inspiring at the same time and absolutely not rhetorical.
Not pompous but full.
I like him very much.
With this record, if you think to get it, i'd like to suggest last Reggio's soundtrack by Philip Glass "Naqoyqatsi".
The movie as well.

Change of pace to this musically fabulous album - albeit miserably recorded - dunno if remaster is any beter than vinyl

Thanks for the Part info - I'll try to find a few samplers on the web ( might only be mp3 tho - sorry

The samples I just found of the Jenny Lewis sounded interesting too so there goes another order to Amazon.
The Music Room is still cheaper than hanging out in the Hifi-Corner tho' !

Morrissey - Ringleader Of The Tormentors
My initial thoughts are that, it is not as good as the previous album "You Are The Quarry" musically, but it is very well produced by Tony Visconti. It also has to be said that Morrissey's voice sounds as good as it ever did, despite the passing of time, and it is growing on me.

Lloyd on the Alpine.
The sun is finally out after three days of rain. There is nothing better to do, after the daily-one hour crowded train ride from Chicago, than to jump into the little Schmendrik (my car), open the sunroof, insert All my Relations into the Alpine and drive into the country to the wetlands for a sunset walk almong the Des Plaines river.
Lloyd is very good here (in a 1994 recording) with his saxophone, flute and Chinese Oboe. Bobo Stenson is even better on the piano.
Best regards,
Haim

Kuma my friend,
Do you buy all those albums because of the music or because of the beautiful art on the covers?
It is sure nice to hace a great sounding album that also looks like it belongs on the walls of an Art Institute.

Haim

Gianluigi,
This pure magic is for you.
Dear Haim!
Thanks a lot again!
I'm still writing that list.
The guys at JPC are blocking my card since more than a month.
They say it's expired and my institute says no.
I sit between them and wait.
I hope they're to sort it out soon or my card will really get to his expiration day!
Shame because the shop have an incredible range of products....................
Meanwhile i'm listening to this:![]()
Gianluigi,
That is a great Quartet that works so well with Saluzzi's accordion.
Hope you have a good evening,
Haim

Jazz Crusaders: Happy Again
Haim,
I used to buy albums purely from the cover art. ( ELP's Brain Salad Surgery was one of them. )
I do like the cover of 'Lucky Seven' by Bob James.
Simple but arresting and colourful.
Not these days, tho. I try to listen before I buy.

Haim - I categorically DID NOT!! I will give it another listen when I am through with my current list of outstanding listens. Better drink a bottle of wine before I do.
Cheers

started off with this - loud!
wife went to bed, so i moved onto a 'phone sesh with this
this is in the pile - a great late night one with 'phones. i've recommended this before, but it's worth repeating again. sublime stuff. celebrating the end of 3 days of rain in the Twin Cities.
