What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Jason.
I still think the Moon Safari is better.. but what do you think of it?
Hi Kuma,
Moon Safari is probably one of my all time faves. The above , however, i felt was a return to their 'roots' if you will. Some good mellow and interesting tunes.
However, there are only a few standout tracks on this, but still good nonetheless.
Cheers!

This is a really great record so I've played it yet again - from Stolen Purse to Tie The Bonnet there isn't a bad track.

More from Ella, started with My Funny Valentine, but then started at the beging. What an artist in such subtlely literate songs! Fredrik

Where are you.
Your posts are missing.

Gianluigi,
I am here with your beautiful music that arrived this afternoon (thank you again). It is 9 P.M. and I am finally sitting down. I arrived home late, had to cook dinner for the wife and daughter and later on had to sit on the tractor and mow the grass which has been growing so fast that you would think that we were living here on the Nile's delta. The sun went down and I had to turn the tractor's lights on. I had no choice but finish the mowing tonight since tomorrow, after work, I am staying in town andgoing to an Irish Pub on the North side of Chicago to listen to Fred Simon play piano.
Hope evrything is fine with you.
Regards,
Haim

In the car tonight:
Ghatam / Antenna Repairman / MA Recordings
M. B. Gordy, Robert Fernandez and Arthur Jarvinen.
The Repairmen vow to change your perception of music in this startling percussion trio recording. Ghatam is a performance work for an exotic array of handmade, ceramic percussion instruments designed specifically for the piece by sculptor Stephen Freedman. Besides Ghatam, which in performance can last over an hour, there are 2 free-improvisations as well, performed on bottles, buckets, chairs, cymbals, a ratchet wrench and other junk found in the hall where the recording was produced.

Still trying to decide if I like this one. Quite a departure from her previous recordings.

Why "alas" and "unfortunately" ?
It's about music not the medium.

Horslips, Sgt Peppers/ Pet Sounds.DSOTM moment is undoubtedly The Book of Invasions - A Celtic Symphony
Their best work and where the fusion of trad and rock worked seamlessly. This is a must.
This is really the watershed album, after that the rock influence became more prevalent.
My favorite post Invasions would be Aliens.
The Tain which you have is probably the best before Invasions, but the album that started it all Happy to meet, Sorry to part is worth a punt also.
Avoid the unfortunate cup of tea unless you have all the others.
Regards
John
