What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Sometimes i wonder: if i could only meet a woman that can listen to music.
Some women bikes, play football, drive racing cars, learn karate, speak like men, work as managers.
Why the hell they don't like music.
I wonder.

Haim,
I'm either going too fast or too wrapped up in the music. Have to say, the roads on which I drive don't appear to have many hitchhikers.

PS - currently listenig to SWMBO's electric toothbrush, precursor to bed.

Nah.
I've lent it to a friend and never got it back.
And now I realise that it's discontinued!

You mean this one, right?

The rumor has it that the XRCD is losing a US distribution. Which means they need to be purchased directly from Japan.

Hi Kuma!
There's only one site, i've been able to find here in Italy, that sells XRCDs but the catalogue is full of "out of stock".
I think that the way is to get them direct from JVC.
They're bloody pricey, anyway.
I think that i'll try to get one or two, just for "collection".

Gianluigi,
I've got most of the titles I like.
But I would like to replace the Castro-neves CD as well as Dave Grusin's 'Mountain Dance'.
The latter, apparently, was never for the US distribution and it costs about 50 $ direct from the HMV in Japan.
( that's a lot of $$ for a fregging CD given that I only like one tune out of this album )

Here in Italy you get XRCDs for 30 euros which is not a price but a robbery.
I still do wonder why they keep on workin on new formats when they know they can't have a market.
The pity is that they sound quite well.

an XRCD isn't a new *format* perse.
It's just a careful QC manufacturing a CD is what I understand.
I used to get them in the US around 25$ or less and you know what? the quality also depending on the titles, too. Some are exceptional whilst some.. it's okey.
But over all, for a redbook, they are excellent.

That's the point.
I don't think i need DVDaudio, SACD, minidisc, Blue ray and so on and on.
I know that on redbook parameters they can work very well.
Maybe they think we're goin' to change player every 2/3 years..............
crazy!
