What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

'Every Kind of People'.
This is such a happy tune for a sunny bright day.

Everytime i think about that album my mind goes to this:
"Boys of summer"
A piece of my youth.

Casta Diva shootout between Callas and Sutherland, will be followed by Jussi Björling - no contests for him.

Sometimes i do forget about the all the stuff i have here.
I don't buy many soundtracks and when i do it's because after several sights both movie and soundtrack just kick my senses.
Hat in hand i'd warmly reccomend this record.

Stefan!
Two MAs in a row. I am touched and I am going to send you some flowers.
I do not know if you noticed, but La Segunda is posted upside down. If you position the cd right the photograph turns upside down, with the reflection on top and the real image on the bottom.
I asked Todd if it was a mistake or intentional and his answer was that the upsided photograph was supposed to reflect the state of the tango music today.
Best regards,
Haim

The first time on the Briks.
I remember bringing this disc to various hifi shops when I decided to get a decent hifi after a decade of not having one.
Never thought I would be playing the same disc on almost 30 year old speakers.
It's still amasing how fresh it sounds on the Briks.
Too bad I didn't get to hear them then. They could have saved me a fortune.

Here goes my all time favourite:
1. Lost on Arrival: DJ T's Philly can make any *respecatable* hifi nervous.
2. Crystal Method: Vegas
I don't think they've done anything worthwhile after this one. .
3. Chicane: Behing the Sun
A 12" single Saltwater is a must.
4. Sasha: Globalunderground
Get the Special Edition 12" single collection LPs, too.
Lostep on a Naim system is one fun ride.
5. Armin Van Buuren: Boundaries of Imagination
Just play this from start to finish without any interruption. He's got a new album out but I haven't heard it yet.
6. Tom Middleton: Jedi's Nights out
This is a sort of Classic 90's Club music. But I think he's versatile enough to keep my interest.
7. Tom Middleton: the sound of cosmos
8. Dzihan & Kamien: LIve in Vienna
A world music flavoured electornica. No synth drums here.
9. Hooverphonic: Stereosound Spectacular
10. Junkie XL: Saturday Teenage Kick
It's an oldie but I still get a kick out of 'No Remorse'.
...and I'm sure you might have this one already.
I hope you'll have fun with them. If not all, for sure some.

Jason,
This is the only one worth having as far as their catalogue is concerned.
I'd categorise this particular album as downtempo electronica with a sense of humor.
Trying to think who they sound like.. maybe a cross between Air and Portishead with stronger funky beats.
Like PinkFloyd's Meddle, one side is like a continuous story telling.
The entire album should be listened continious.
It's so vivid, I can almost see the visual.
It's dreamy with airy female vocal but it's got plenty of bite, too.
Two newer release, I didn't think were good as this one.
