What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

I was pulling with my Schmandrik into the wetlands for my 5k walk this evening when track 2 Soledad, started playing. I turned the engine off, turned the volume up and sat listening to it.

A great looking horse rider passed by and she gave me a look like: What's wrong with you, sitting like that in the car, when outside nature is so perfect?

After that I had to listen to track 6 Nublado which is another 11 minutes of Argentinian cello, guitar, bandoneon and bass clarinet, music that I cannot even describe..

I don't know. Perhaps Stefan, and now Adrian would understand, though I am sure that they never saw that horse rider.

Walk was very good too.

I absolutely under stand the musical part of your post - can't unfortunately say anything about the "in the car" part of it, because my Schmandrik doesn't have CD playing facility (and I don't have cassette tapes), but then: what does a UN general need discs for, in the desert ?

On the other hand: This last weekend the 5 horses that live next to our house over summer, arrived back for the "season", and it was such a joy to see them run, jump, neigh and snort or an hour or so, after that long, long winter in the barnstable...

cheers

Horslips - Book of Invasions unfortunately a slightly duff e-bay purchase. Selllers idea of excellent not the same as mine it might be visually but a lot of groove distortion and surface noise. It is still a great album though.

krushevo is a real favourite of mine and the Goldberg variations is also pretty good.

I should thank Haim for introducing MA records to me quite sometime ago now.

I have always loved Maria Callas voice but have never ever bought any of her cds. In your opinion (and if anyone else is listening) where is a good place to start.

Thank you very very much

Dear Diccus!
I did robber the cd from my mother's collection (she has one!).

The edition i did listen to is very good for the playin' and the presence of Di Stefano as well.
I'd not suggest you to get this because is not remastered and you can hear all the distortion of the analogue.
In some parts it makes me think that they did transfer an old LP directly to disc!
Maybe Tam and Fredrik can help you in your search.
Lets start a new discussion!
