What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

I have two discs of Callas singing various arias, that I recently inherited, but I don't much care for her voice, or such collections and have been meaning to take them to a charity shop for some time. If you would like them, you may have them as a gift.

Some nights the music is just so alive one knows one is heading for a late night despite the looming morning Roll Eyes

Stefan mon General,

If you get rid of the antennas, all the short waves and satelite radios as well as the flag, you will have planty of room to install a decent CDP and some speakers in your UN.

Communications are essential, but I rather do them with the music than with the UN HQs.

I keep my cars for a long time. So when the Schmandrik came along in 2005 I did not mind outfitting it with a quality Alpine head unit and a pair of components Boston Acoustics speakers, that I hope will keep me a good company for a long time.

Peace with the Peace Keeping Force,

Haim

kuma,

excellent stuff on the headphones. it's too late to fire up the speakers. i picked this up earlier this eve along with the Propellerhead and the Crystal Method cds you recommended - all 3 were 1/2 priced used - big score!

I have no Monk in my collection to speak of, would this be a good palce to start. or would there be better places to sample Monk?

SJB - it's not a bad place to start, but I think Monk's Music or Brilliant Corners might be easier. Proper have released a box set with Monk's Blue Note recordings through to his first disc with Riverside - personally, you won't go wrong with that either. I prefer the discs he cut with Riverside, but I have all the other stuff as well. It's not everyone's cup of tea but Monk's Music is one of my desert island discs.

Currently - a slight change of tack, Rachelina und die Maccheronies "Canzoni Napoletane"
