What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Yes I am a Richard Thompson fan,but only in the last few years. I knew about him previously but did not realise how great he really is.
I only have 3 Fairport CDs they were a gift from a work mate who got later remastered copies.I have to say that I have not listened that much to them. That probably means that RTs contribution has not "hit" me that much.I am working along the RT and R< shelf at the moment so Fairport will be next. I'll comment further then.

The Evening of my Best Day - Rickie Lee Jones
Lieg and Lief - Fairport Convention
What We Did on Our Holidays - Fairport Convention
Richard Thompson on the last 2. I have come the conclusion that RT does not have a specific style. You just hear riffs and think "yeah thats him".
As ROTF says what away to spend a beutiful Saturday afternoon. (I'm catching a few rays as well).

The Rolling Stones, Between the Buttons
The Move, Split Ends
Jimi Hendrix, Axis: Bold As Love
Procol Harum, A Salty Dog
I figure there's maybe 1-2 weeks of weather left suitable for listening to Skylarking (XTC) ..."Summer's Cauldron" is surely cooling off...

Eastwood: After Hours Live at Carnegie Hall.
It is a great collection of old standards.
This CD never sounded good to me before in my previous rig. It had a tinge of brightness and somewhat flat sounding.
Put it on to chill for the first time. (CDS3/552/300/Allae)
Wow!
It's alive!
The system captures that special live feel.
A Naim system is good at it, but I'm throughly impressed on this one.
Horn section sounds like a horn and retain the brightness but sooo open and ear-bleed free!

iTunes is shuffle-playing my rock folder through my Mac. Currently "Bad to the Bone" George Thorogood and the Destroyers. Just had "Rough Justice" from "A Bigger bang" - the Stones best for a long time.
