What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Well, i have to say i was a little disappointed with the Zero 7 cd. Maybe another spin sometime..

And now..

"The Sweetest" - Bloody marvellous. Sounds like he used all them speakers on the cover to master the bass Big Grin

Where the heck do they find all these spurious samples from? Beats me...

I think their first and second cd's were fantastic, which i why i bought the new one, but to be honest, it doesn't seem to go anywhere.

Maybe i'll give it another try sometime.

Hi Jasons!
Simple things is not bad and not good.
Left me very cold.
I can't even remember where it is!

I think it is worth another spin sometime. I have tried it three times and it's growing on me. Clearly a more 'stripped down' sound. Am going to see them on Friday, will see if it's better live (saw them on the When it Falls tour, excellent, fantastic sound quality, even for Cambridge Corn Exchange...)

Hi G,

I tend to agree with you about 'Simple Things'. However, 'When It Falls', their second album, i think is a lot more, shall we say, 'polished'. Time has been taken on each track which has led to great results.

I also think you need to really like that kind of music to probably appreciate/understand it, maybe.

I am very much into chillout (horrible name) and electronica than uptempo, but im always open to suggestions!!!

Cheers

Following on the Miles Davis theme

Sorry to hear that the new Zero 7 was a bit of a let down Jasons. I've got other two and the remixes version, and was expecting to go out and get this. Let us know if it continues to grow, or stays on the shelf.

Regards

Hi Nic,

Im afraid it is a little disappointing and certainly not as apparent as the first 2. I would try and blag a listen before you buy.

Jasons,

Cheers. Listening to one they made earlier.

Simple Things. Track 4 "Give it away", always puts me in a good mood.

After reading an interview in Sunday Times Driving supplement of all places I got hold of and have just finished listening to George Thorogood & The Destroyers "30 Years of Rock" - sounds fresh as a daisy and reminded me of them appearing on Live Aid way back when. Recommended.

Excellent choice, sir. Very "Moon Safari".

David Raksin conducts his favourite film scores.
Laura and the Bad and the Beautiful suits are mongst the best.
There's something lyrical and rhythmic about his scores that I like very much.

Pity, his career was cut short because of Hollywood Red Witch Hunt during the McCarthy era.

Interesting trivia:
"Sixty years after its release, "Laura" remains a cult film classic, largely for its music. When actress Hedy Lamarr was asked why she had turned down the lead role, she said, "Because they sent me the script instead of the score."

Hi Jasons!
I don't have a "kind of music" i like over others.
Btw i do like to "taste" before getting records (money is not so much) and internet gives me fantastic chances.
I really don't like to "call" music, but i let music call me.
Smile
So just keep on posting covers and i'll be around.
Credit card at hand..................
