What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Dawn Chorus (of the birds of a feather), best listened to at the begining and not the end of the day... Fred

Instead of getting up at 5, taking the car to Mannheim, a three hour train ride to Munich, tram to the MOC, just to reach the "High End" show", (not to mention the way back) I've made a wise decision to stay at home and treat my family with some good food and myself with some good music, starting with
Indeed, a wise decision...
cheers

Mozart / Serenades E flat major, K.375 & C minor, K. 388 / The Netherlands Wind Ensemble / Phillips
Music for 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 horns & 2 bassoons.
It is real hard to find those images of 30 years old LPs.
Haim
Haim, there's a trick: You need to carefully fold the LP cover twice. After this it's really easy to run the four sides through your scanner. With the help of Photoshop, you mount these four pieces together, put the result on your web site, link them in from there, é voilà !
Piece of cake, really...
Stefan
PS: Take out the LP's before you start folding. MUCH easier !

Thanks for reminding me of this recording. Three masters of the guitar recorded so that each one has its own channel. I love their version of Timeless

i've been up for 30+ hrs. i found out yesterday that my hospital is restructuring and i'm going to have to re-bid on my job - problem is, i'm low on the seniority list and i love my job and co-workers. i'm trying to keep busy with java and music. i've just finished putting together a lovely head/footboard bed-frame from IKEA for my wife. will try it out with a nap before a mind clearing run.

Currently have Disc One of The Collected Bill Evans on Verve about 20 discs ! (The Rusty Metal Box Set).
I plan to listen to it all over the coming weekend !
On the subject of inappropriate music for ads I can never hear the Nutcracker now without Frank Muir's voice starting up in my head. It must have been 30 years ago, that music has been ruined for me.
Everyone's a fruit and nut case...
Aaaargh !!!!

Has to be the most stupidly designed case in the history of box sets - not only is it a pain to get the discs out but you get your hands covered in rust for your troubles.
Still, great music!

Tam,
I agree about the case. It puts me off listening at times. And as for the music.. It just gets better and better.

Dear Alan,
The music is stunning (though, personally, I prefer the Riverside vintage stuff - then again, I am rather fond of the various 'conversations' albums so....)

Scott Walker - The Drift
Excellent - more singalongascott
I really like this album, it is every bit as good as Tilt with a bit less emphasis on tunes.

Never heard about Walker before. Had a short listen on JPC, and - ordered The Drift, immediately.
thanks,

Mahler 6. Abbado/BPO (and, rather to my joy, discovering that my Powerbook has suddenly agreed to play hybrid SACDs after years of refusing to - and I will now be able to put them on my ipod!).
