What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Wishbone Ash - Argus (again!). Age really is starting to catch up on me.
But I'm planning to go for a walk and then listen to a recent EMI recording of Martha Argerich performing Schumann's Piano Concerto and Beethoven's Triple Concerto. I bought this some months ago, but somehow have never got round to playing it.

Highway 61 Revisited my original mono edition (slightly too much surface noise unfortunately). It's still great though.

Were you inspired by the documentary then?
IMHO Highway 61 Revisited is Dylan at his best.

Ozric Tentacles - Waterfall Cities. Groovy!
ROTF yes I kept hearing snatches of songs like "Like a Rolling Stone" and thought I'll have some more.
Debating whether to buy H61R and BIABH on 180gm vinyl @£14 each or get the CDs.

Miles - Flamenco Sketches (alt) from Kind of Blue, a nice way to pass 10 minutes or so, whilst the second evening of Dylan gets recorded

First CD I've bought in ages:
Jack Johnson - In Between Dreams.
I especially like Good People, Breakdown and Do you Remember.
Must get those room acoustics sorted cos it sounds better on headphones...

Linda Thompson - Give Me A Sad Song - loaned from the public library to rip.
Can't wait to be old enough to get my bus pass, and the other one that lets me borrow CD's for free, wonder if they'll have SACD by then.
Fabulous voice, great choice of songs, there is supposed to be an up and coming guitarist in the mix somewhere.

I'm listening to a fabulous jazz record from Ranee Lee and Oliver Jones "Just You, Just Me", this is my last CD purchase... from a record store.
Next one on the "to play" stack is from a young artist named Corneille, and the title is "Parce Qu'on Vient De Loin". An excellent french Hip-Hop album with a lot of groove factor.
Bye.

Just about to have a listen to the Heifetz/Toscanini Beethoven violin concerto on Naxos. Coupled with a breathtaking account of the Brahms with Kousevitsky...!

I was reading the Sunday times to Emmy Lou Harris Anthology, then dylan's Blood on the Tracks, and now Elton's Yellow Brick Road.
I had lots of good contemporary/modern classical last night on the radio with the lights low and a whiskey at hand.
equal opportunity listener here.

Grateful Dead - Hallowe'en 1990 at Wembley Stadium. (Thanks, Basil!)
And I was there at the time, as was (at least) one of the Moderators of this Forum. We're shortly to relive All Along The Watchtower with, after a bit of a gap for other stuff, Werewolves of London.
So, life's pretty mucking good at present.
