What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Will be interested to know what you think - however, Wagner isn't for all tastes (and I know what you mean about the shouting - it can be a little like that sometimes). You might also like to try a disc of purely orchestral highlights (there's a great Abbado disc that is mainly from Parsifal - wonderfully lyrical stuff, Tennstedt has a wonderful one on the LPO's own label and Szell/Cleveland's budget price offering is outstanding).

p.s. Currently listening to Barenboim and the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra playing Tchaikovsky 5.

^ Great record. Do you have the new one, out last week (I think)? I've gotten into TC over the past couple years and it's a fabulous sound they have, perfect after work music. They do have a tendency to sound very samey though, you could be forgiven for not knowing what track or album you were listening to but knowing it was TC.

Currently on the CDX2 (sans Hi-Line now Frown): Fiona Apple - Tidal

These really are 2 fantastic albums.

with a great extra track on 2004 remaster of Diamonds on the soles of her shoes - with just bass guitar and voices.

Matt,

Crackin album,

Got tickets to see her at the Sage in Gateshead in I think November. It's a rearranged gig following her postponment after the bombs went off in London last year. True star

Should be a good show. Enjoy. She doesn't seem to get around this part of New York too often.

missed this one at the time, I was young and believed reviews!

sounds very good on this first listening. Not as many immediate songs as on Gracelands (apart from the obvious child) but it sounds like the sort of album that will reveal a lot on repeated listenings.
