What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Stefan,

I have no music of my countryman, Avishai.

I need some recommendations, please.

Haim

Haim, I can't really recommend much more because this is the only one I have of Avishai. See also Anthony's suggestions. He's quite young and a very talented (el. and ac.) bass player, and especially in the live concert, he demonstrated all his talents. The CD above is more on the "faster side" than most of the music YOU normally like, but still: Try it...

cheers
Stefan

Sabine Meyer - Paris Mécanique; thanks for the recommendation Stefan

Will be followed by the new collaboration between Elvis Costello and Allen Toussaint - The river in reverse

You're VERY welcome, Huw, does that mean you like it ?

Enjoy

Yes, perfect for lighthearted Saturday morning listening, feet up in front of the speakers, back from the Viktualienmarkt and enjoying a cup of Paris roast coffee and a croissant with nothing to do until I have to prepare dinner tonight.

B is off shopping with a friend and I will be catching up with some recent purchases.

Keeping with the Toussaint horn arrangement theme, it has been The Band - Rock of Ages, which created an unhealthy desire to listen to the Grateful Dead Eek I am regressing, "what a long strange trip it's been ..."

Anthony and Stefan,

Thank you for your suggestions. If the stuff is real fast I am going to put my running shoes on while listening to Avishai whose name in Hebrew means father's gift.

Haim

Early morning music with Angela Hewitt playing Francois (Couperin 'Le Grand') Sixieme Ordre.
The weather is perfect today, and after doing some 'ordre' (Premier et Second) around the house I am going to disappear with my bike for a couple of hours.

Paul Simon's Anthology double cd is spinning on a glorious sunny Saturday and making a great sound - much better quality than I had anticipated, especially for the give away price Borders offered.

Gianluigi my Italian boy,

Thanks I am doing O.K.
I hope you are doing fine yourself though you would do much better with the Buenos Aires Madrigals (a gentle reminder).

I am still reading Veronesi (Power of the Past) and I think you might like it to. The main character's father is an ....Italian General.

Don't forget to teach the pup to retrieve the puck.

Time to chill, Susanne Abbuehl's Compass. An intriguing mixture of verse from the likes of James Joyce and William Carlos Williams, set to a combination of clarinet, piano and drums.

Stefan, Haim - I think you might like this. Given that it's on ECM it's probably already in Adrian's collection

Bee Gees - Their Greatest Hits: The Record

Huw,

Thanks. For a second I was thinking you were going to offer me one of your delicious croissants.. But music is good enough. I will try her instead.
What's for dinner anyway, Huw?

Huw, had this in my hands a couple of times, already - couldn't decide. Today, again...

Instead bought (and listen to, right now: )

(OK, as expected)

(currently spinning - good.)
and

saving for later - very excited to hear this in the evening)

Enjoy

The problem of cleaning the house while playing music is that production goes way down. I am finding myself taking too many breaks to listen to tracks here and there.

Hi Haim!
No.
I don't need to teach him!
He likes to rest at one of the SBLs' feet.
