What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

The Drift is as far removed from Scott as Danniel O'Donnell is from Captain Beefheart (not including the album Danniel sings songs from Trout Mask Replica of course). Although it sounds different from Trout Mask Replica, I believe The Drift is as different from mainstream pop music as that work.
Gracenote classifies Scott's The Dift as Punk & Alternative.
I can't promise you'd like The Drift, but I can promise you'll have heard few albums like it.
Try some samples
Cossacks Are
Clara

The samples focus on the easy listening parts of the The Drift, but will give you a flavour.
All the best, Rotf
PS - I don't think The Drift will remind you of Sinatra. I think Scott's albums get more interesting the older he gets.
The clips certainly sound interesting but I really don't think they will match up to this one.

Having listened to Clifford Curzon play some Schubert impromptus, I have now moved on to Milcho Leviev - Man from Plovdiv, somewhat different but no less rewarding. A new order for some of Todd Garfinkle's MA Recordings is now winging its way across cyberspace. Thanks for the tip Haim!

I've just put on Gomez's new one for the first time. With Gomez we're always treated to something different with each album, so I will be interested to hear!

continuing my Grimaud journey (whilst and after finishing her book "Wolfssonate"). After "Credo", Rach #2 and her latest (Schumann / Schumann / Brahms), now with her 5CD set (Chopin, Schumann, Liszt, Brahms, Ravel, Rach)
Maybe adding Beethoven #4 or Bartok, afterwards...

Canteloube's Chants d'Auvergne sung by Netania Devrath on an old Vanguard LP from 1972, probably could benefit from a spin on ye olde Okki Nokki but sounds wonderful nevertheless.

Mrs Rotf's mum loves DD - where can I get her this album, it looks even better than one advertised on a Half Man, Half Biscuit cover - Charlie Drake Sings Nick Drake.
Album cover of the century IMO.

One of the few albums that survived from mum's purge.
The first time on an AROed Linn with XX2.
I always blamed the record for its lacklustre fidelity.
Wrong. It sounds great!
