What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

after "Radiance", it's "La Scala", now. His best ? A serious candidate.

An eclectic evening to say the least, courtesy of the Okki Nokki:

Led Zeppelin IV - original, still a few pops and crackles but the noise floor significantly lower than when unwashed.

Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Live Rust (all of it, some bits more than once)

Keith Jarrett - Köln (the draw backs of vinyl, side 2s less than 7 mins. long)

Graham Parker - Struck by Lightning

First Jarrett album I had ever heard (way back). Brought me to Jazz, somehow. And, it's still the base of all his work with the European Quartet...

Enjoy

Hi Lee,

Fila Brazilia are very good indeed, with an original style, but not repetitive.

My recommendation would be Maim That Tune:

Excellent to start off a collection with although some of their stuff does need a little time to aclimatise to you.

In fact, im going to put it on now.

Happy buying!

Jason.

Toumani Diabate's Systematic Orchestra. This did not strike a chord with me initially on CD, having recently seen him live, but has definitely grown on me since

Lots of Beethoven this evening: Symphonies 7 and 8 from Jochum and the BPO, the first cello sonata from Du Pre and Barenboim, the seventh symphony again from Davis and the Dresden Skaatskapelle and now the 8th again from Mackerras and the RLPO.

Dvorak symphony 8 with Mackerras and the LPO (a bargain with 7 and 9 on EMI's classics for pleasure).

Siouxsie and the Banshees - Nocturn (on vinyl). Live set recorded over a couple of nights at the Albert Hall in 1983. Robert Smith from the Cure guesting on guitar for the ill John McGeoch. A very good live album.

The Orpheus Chamber Orchestra playing Handel's Firework Music. Having just recently acquired the Mackerras wind orchestrated version it somehow now seems all wrong with all these strings.

Very romantic glitches, distant radio noises and pianos.
A good album.

Marc-André Hamelin playing Albeniz Iberia - very enjoyable as I know this more from guitar than piano. Thanks to Haim for recommending this.
