What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Loretta Holloway 'Runaway' : Danny Krivit re-edit 12" mix

Kari Bremnes - Norvegian Mood
Peter Epstein - The Invisible

Both are excellent !

(pz: Epstein: yummie !)

Silvana Deluigi - Yo !
Typical "american clave" label CD with cooperation of Kip Hanrahan and (besides others) Steve Swallow, Renaud Garcia-Fons playing in the band. Very much Agentinian-style, Piazzolla is everwhere, La Tristezza, and so forth... Excellent early summer evening "food" with a full an drich sound offering.

cheers

Aside from mainly the Beethoven experience on Radio 3 (the reason I've posted nothing on my own thread), I've just been listening to Georg Szell and the Cleveland Orchestra playing various bits of Wagner (thanks for the recommendation, a while back, Graham, came across it in HMV today).

Lisa Ekdahl - Olyckssyster; really starting to grow on me this one. It's neither the light folk or jazz standards of her earlier recordings, quite difficult to pigeonhole really. Oh, and she sings in Swedish so it's not easy to know what she's singing about (jeg tale Dansk) but that shouldn't put you off. Perfect for a summer's evening, a glass of Averna, some ice cubes, a squeeze and slice of lemon.

G'night all

Barry Wedgle (classical + Flamenco guit.), Shigeo Sugiyama (double bass) - Virgo

Guitar player Wedgle between classical, Flamenco and Jazz style - acoustic, in any way - at times being joined by that double bass (most of the times "walking" style - which forms an enormously swinging result (reminding soem "gipsy" varieties, here and there), perfectly recorded 18 years ago.

That's what records have to be like to earn their place in the hall of fame.

Not ?

Peter Epstein - Solus

Epstein and his horn playing with and against the echoes of that church in Lucca, Italy. From classical adaptations (of Bach's violin partita) to squeaky noises that make your footnails roll up (...). J.U.S.T beautiful !

Baseline - Why Really
Double Bass, guitar (Abercrombie) and drums weave sound webs - sometimes in company with singer Dee Dee Bridgewater, who adds even more of the mood that turns your room into an all-swinging "object". Nice !

Joel Xavier - Lisboa
One of three recomended CD's (the others being Lusitano and "In New York") with guitarist Xavier. Guest stars Toots Thielemans and Fado singer Carlos do Carmo contribute to this CD round about Lisbon places. Quite like reading a book...

Nice,
Stefan
