What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Keane - "Under the Iron Sea" (CD). Not quite as consistent as their first, but a few stellar tracks. Kind of crappy, brash recording, though. Too bad. Anybody got the vinyl yet?

Hard-Fi - "Stars of CCTV" (CD). Great disc. Surprised I like it so much, after hearing one single on the radio and not being moved.

Belle & Sebastian "The Life Pursuit" LP. A bit drippy, but some good tunes and a great recording.

Can't believe you have THIS, Haim !

Has been one of my far most favorite jazz albums (unfortunately Freeman developped into a direction I couldn't follow - unlike his father's development !) Have the vinyl version since - uhm - 1975ish, and the CD for quite some years, now...

spooky,
Stefan

Stefan,

I also have a later one (also with Cecil McBee) which I enjoy:

Unfortunately my collection is throwing up selections to make it a rather serious Sunday

I hope number 14 was uber cheerful - Nebraska is as serious as it gets - if you aren't in the right mood, the thought of listening to it would be daunting to say the least!!

Peter

Bloomin heck, I love Nebraska and put it on for light relief. Its one of the more cheery records in my collection!! No wonder when my wife asks me to "put on something a bit more cheerful" I look at her blankly. Smile

As a fine example of miserabilism

Last night I listened to Willard Grant Conspiracy - Everything's Fine, though you wouldnt think so. I love it.

Thanks Haim! I did 5k yesterday at 7am and I about melted before I got home. Either I'm too old or it's too hot.

Anyway on with a CD:

Bought in Wuppertal, Germany as a box set of 3 LP's when I was a lot younger - what an album!

The Gotan Project - La Revancha Del Tango, just to make a change from Bell X1 and the new Sonic Youth.

Just before that Yungchen Lhamo, the voice of Tibet, wow what a range.

What's this I hear that's going all around town?
The people are sayin' you gonna put the kid down,
Lordy, what're you doing?
You can call it what you want,
I call it messin' with the kid.

Belongs in the best opening lines does it not?

Great opening to the album, hair raising even.

confessing time: never heard this before - the splendid Bennie Maupin CD (who plays on BB, as well) inspired me to buy this.

Well...
Must be a real classic...
