What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Stefan,
I took a day off - needed to bust some stress, what better way than listening to music?

Currently revisiting Starker's Bach from earlier today

Perfect stree-relief therapy, Huwge ! (in fact, I should have done teh same instead of joining one satupid conf call after the other)

Now, moving over to

Not sure whether it's "The Best", but it's a bloody good collection AND recording of this exceptional musician that had to go too early...

cheers
Stefan

Lovely bloke Willy Vlautin - Have i mentioned it before Winker

Hi Diccus
Yes and no. It's the new live album only available from the web site, but it's a regular order CD, not a download. Very stark in places and much of the first half of the album is WV alone with an acoustic guitar. The performance is fragile in places which adds to the "beauty out of sadness" that I just can't find an appropriate word for. I met WV briefly earlier this year, and if you put him in a room with Royalty, Clapton, Dylan, Bowie, anyone you could think of, he would be the guy you'd want to talk to.

Now listening to The Indestructible Beat of Soweto, vol. 1

Progressed onto "Beyond the Frontline," really jumping about the collection today. No idea what follows this.

Huwge,

The opening track on this album Awungilobolele by Udokotela Shange Namanjaha is absolutely brilliant, have you ever come across anything else by him/them?

Regards

Nic

Welcome to the forum.

Wonderful disc - you may find this thread of interest.

Nic,
somewhere I have some South African vinyl, sourced in the late '80s by a friend who was a frequent traveller there. If I could only find them, I could answer your question honestly. I think I have albums or tracks by most of the artists on vols. 1 & 2 of this series. I guess it gives me an excuse to go rummaging in the basement.

Currently Lhasa - The Living Road, after an eclectic morning of various tracks used in Scorcese movies.

Huwge, I like that *ich location... Guess it's Mun, now, with that much music...

Still with my 3 new Dolphy CD's. If I hear this man's music, who died with 36 years, I read some of the current threads, here, with a different perspective...

Enjoy,
Stefan

Mun- but Zür- in the not too distant future. Max. 18 months here but then it's over the border.

Will drop an e-mail soon to catch you up on everything and with a couple of questions re your last Naim upgrade.

A bit more beat now with Peter Tosh - Equal Rights

Omar Sosa - Mulatos, a great hybrid world-jazz disc that is equally rewarding with every replay

Do not, however, be seduced by the Mulatos Remix disc, it just doesn't work.

The Twilight Family - Handsome. A keeper, but an irritating scratch on last track of side 1 means it's going back on Monday

Cheers for that , i'll have to try it. I havent bought anything from them since Post to Wire and WV doing solo sounds like it should have potential.

Yeah he just chats like an ordinary Joe and is interested what you think. No major ego and a guy who cares and is warm and friendly.

After having to do some repair work to the wardrobe that had experienced a slight SWMBO temper tantrum - drawers' drawer got stuck and wouldn't close, currently enjoying a cup of tea and Grant Green "Sunday Morning." God is in his heaven and all is well with the world once more.

Yes!
A fresh and quite sunday morning.
Getting ready for a round of aperitifs and the fire is ready to get steaks and spicy sausages.
What more.....................chocolate cake and white sparkling wine are in the fridge.
I'm on a diet, but i think that torture can wait untill tomorrow.................
