What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Works for me everytime. I cannot quite understand why they are not more popular. I played it to a 35 year old recently who really likes 80's stuff but had never listened to Japan - fixed that anyway! Got Neat MFS coming tomorrow, so I'll see what Japan sound like through those!

And now, before bed..
B.O.C. - 'In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country'.
'Kid for Today'. Layer upon layer. Sadly enough, i think i counted about 4 or 5 drum loops cleverly blended to sound as one. Awesome. Peace.

Two weeks ago, at the age of 52, Lorraine Hunt Lieberson died of cancer.
One of her closest collegues and a choir conductor in Boston described her music: 'There is something viola-like about the rich grainess of her singing, about her ability to sound a tone from nothing'.
As a kid she studied the piano. At the age of 12 switched to viola and at 26 concentrated on singing. She was married to the composer Peter Lieberson whom she met after being selected to sing in the premiere of his opera Ashoka's Dream.

Heim, thanks for posting that, I want to buy it but haven't gotten around to it. I heard her twice in LA once as a loloist in a Mahler symphony and once doing her husband's song cycle Naruda. She has one of those relaxed natural warm voices.

Nic,
The Spelbound is a bit more new agey.
Not sure if you like it. It's a polished recording and very easy listening. A good chill music but not everyone digs that one.
It's less edgy than the one you have for sure.
Sample is GREAT live, tho. I love watching and listening to him play.
