What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Dear Haim,

Thanks for posting this (I have now added it to my list of CDs to pick up - I've actually been curious since I first saw it, I'm a big fan of Fleisher from his Brahms concertos, I just hadn't go around to it).

regards, Tam

Dear Tam,

I usually do not go for a disc that contains so many different composer on it, but it is acceptable here because I think that Leon Fleisher is still limitted in what and in how long of a piece he can play.

Best regards,

Haim

Mozart / Serenades for wind / Amphion Wind Octet / Panclassics

Some of the best Mozart I know.

You can't leave it like that - let's have a list. I used to have most of their early stuff but it vanished in a move (tasteful removals men?).

Yes Saturday drawing to a close and finishing the evening off with one of the first jazz CD's I ever bought back in 1992. This is a fabulous disc and one I highly recommend (Stefan/Huw). Jazz with a world flavour.

Stefan, I might start my Sunday with your Harnoncourt Beethoven choice.

Cool and calm morning outside. Heavy dew on the grass, some leaves (Hawthorn trees) are already turning. Feels and sounds like a premature fall on Brendel's piano too.

Dear Stefan,

I don't know if you've heard the Aimard/Harnoncourt cycle of the piano concertos but to these ears it's the finest of the modern cycles I've heard.

regards, Tam

p.s. Currently listening to Mackerras and the SCO play Schubert's 9th. Wonderful stuff.
