What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Absolute classic, one of the very first records I bought as a young impressionable teen and wore it out.

For me it was

then I stopped. I guess I had gone from spotty youth to spotty rebel! Saw him last month in Nottingham and he can still bang them out.

I've put all of these albums on so I could post this, how sad is that?

Now i'm in heaven. Madman was wonderful. 'Tiny dancer' is awsome. Yeah i've got very little after this period, I moved on to hard rock/Punk and then everything else. Saw him 2 nights in a row in newcastle with Ray Cooper back in 79 (i think). What a complete showman. I don't know whether you've seen him on an early whistle test doing Tiny Dancer and being interviwed with bernie Taupin. So obvious then that he was a star.

Tiny Dancer

Blue jean baby, L.A. lady, seamstress for the band
Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you'll marry a music man
Ballerina, you must have seen her dancing in the sand
And now she's in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand

Jesus freaks out in the street
Handing tickets out for God
Turning back she just laughs
The boulevard is not that bad

Piano man he makes his stand
In the auditorium
Looking on she sings the songs
The words she knows, the tune she hums

But oh how it feels so real
Lying here with no one near
Only you and you can't hear me
When I say softly, slowly

Hold me closer tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
you had a busy day today

Blue jean baby, L.A. lady, seamstress for the band
Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you'll marry a music man
Ballerina, you must have seen her dancing in the sand
And now she's in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand

Diccus
Saw him in about '76 at the Coventry Hip. He was great. Got to say he was good in Nottingham although the voice has aged.

If you like Tiny Dancer you need to see "Almost Famous"

in fact anyone who likes "rock'n'roll" should see it - criminally underrated film (IMHO).

They are far to good neighbours to annoy - fortunately I can see their car from the window so can tell when they go out if I feel in need of a blast. Cool

But TBH it usually lasts a few bars of opening rifts and then I get weary of the ornaments shaking and the room resonanting and turn it down again. Some would say old age, some would argue wisdom...

Bonham's drums still do the businees. Like you I don't do the volume like i used to. My hearing is also not as good as it used to be due to being a little too close to too many Marshall stacks.

There maybe a thread on 'Ming Vases' and 'Led Zep' on the Forum if you look hard enough Big Grin

Never get weary of 'Kasmir' Cool

Take care

Diccus, I have a recurring argument with myself about whether John Bonham or Keith Moon is top dog on the drum front. Then I have to dig the vinyl out again and have a listen. I never really come to any conclusion but it is a fun, if slightly sad, way to spent an hour.
