What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Change of pace - now that I'm slowly starting to get to know these pieces I'm liking them better and better each time. The tone of the violin and the volume of the harpsichord seem perfectly balanced (to my uneducated ear).

Stefan,

He looks to me like a very healthy tiger.
I bet you his favorite piece is Brahem's...'Le Pas du Chat Noire'.

Laurence Hobgood Trio / Crazy World / naim

After the run. It was so humid that I left a wake behind me. Sat in the car, lowered both windows for cross wind, did not start the engine and play track 2 'Prayers For The Enemy' three times. Now the world seems a little less crazy.

Heifetz playing Sibelius, Tchaikowsky, and Glasunow Violin Concertos with the LPO under Beecham (Sibelius) and Barbiroli.

Not that anyone might suspect I had a romantic blood vessels in my body! This is playing with style and content.

A fascinating project (during last years JazzBaltica festival) featuring Danielsson (bass), Dell (vibraphone) and Landgren (trombone) (yes, Adrian, that maniac we had last summer...) gathering at a "stage" built on the water - at 5 o'clock in the morning, playing with (and against) the birds just waking up, swans on the lake and some other sounds involved.

A unique piece of music making showing all three musicians in their "other light". Wow. Respect for Sigi Loch, for producing this on his ACT label, which normally has much more mainstream stuff...

cheers
Stefan

"Bluesbreakers" John Mayall with Eric Clapton, the the 1998 reissue with mono and stereo mixes. Currently got the mono version playing. Sounds pretty damned good to me!

No wonder we never get to listen to our new music purchases when the old stuff is so good!
