What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

'Jackson County' is always fun to play loud.
Actually the whole album is good all the way through.
My previous speakers couldn't quite play this type of high energy stuff quite convicingly.

1999 debut CD release from the legendary jazz (lots of the ECM catalogue) recording engineer Jan Erik Kongshaug recorded at his own Rainbow Studios in Oslo. He plays guitar and very nicely at that.

New piano trio release on ACT. Very good.

Atmospheric new jazz again from Wolfgang Haffner on ACT with Nils Landgren and Lars Danielsson - enjoyable

Dear Fredrik,

Back on the subject of the Haydn - hope I shall be able to have returned the favour when you have a chance to hear Jochum (rather different to Davis, but glorious none the less). I think, when I have heard all the Davis, a London symphonies thread will be forthcoming.

Stravinsky conducts Stravinsky: Le Sacre du Printemps. The recording from 1960 is very good (no to much distracting reverberation and stuff) and I love his own version of the work. It's pure rock'n'roll.

Tam, I think it is excellent. Songs are:

Don't Be That Way (Benny Goodman)
They All Laughed (Gershwin)
Autumn In New York (Vernon Duke)
Stompin' At The Savoy (Goodman etc)
I Won't Dance (Kern etc)
Gee Baby, Ain't I Good To You (Redman/Razat)
Let's Call The Whole Thing Off (Gershwin)
I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm (Irving Berlin)
I'm Putting All My Eggs In One Basket (Irving Berlin)
Fine Romance (Arlen/Koehler)
Love Is Here To Stay (Gershwin)
Learnin' The Blues (Dolores Silvers)

Almost a must have I think!

And now onto

Ella Fitzgerald Sings The Harold Arlen Songbook.

I was afraid that might be the answer [smiley]

Those not familiar with the earlier Gershwin volume really should seek it out.

I'm under one of the worst storm i've seen in 20 years.
A couple of trees are gone and the road is blocked by tons of stuff....................
System down of course.
Some drops from the roof top straight on the carpet.
I'm getting some sheets to cover the gears.........
Batteries over.

Hope you will go through this with not too many problems, Gianluigi. Has been quite strong, here, too, today, but nothing of the kind you describe...

Hope to hear back from you, soon...

In the spirit of my first Yoga lesson yesterday.

Two things I learned: First, I am the only male in the class. Second, comparing to the women there, I have a body flexibility of an ironing board.
