What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

The overture Anacreon by Cherubini. This is a real favourite of mine. I have three performances - under Klemperer [Testament], Boult [BBC Legends], and possibly best of all Furtwangler [on EMI], and I believe all are currently available, thought the EMI set may have been deleted.

I am about to listen to the Furtwangler reading as I fancied a whole load of favourite overtures, and these follow on!

Semper dolens, semper Dowland! I answered a post of yours in the Padded Cell, in a very non-partisan way, as is my wway. Actually Dowland's very style seems utterly apt to the whole situation, there addressed...

Support act for the Del McCoury band in Gateshead last night was one Kregg Viesselman. Bought his new album on the back of it and reckon it's a cracker (early days tho). It's singer songwriter stuff, fairly close to Ray Lamontagne, mainly acoustic guitar, also reminds me of Richie Havens with his gravely voice.

Stadium Arcadium, Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Tight playing and top tunes. This has to be their best sounding cd yet. Very dynamic. At last engineers who are not deaf.

Two mexican acoustic guitarists with flying fingers and a great sense of rhythm.
.. and an acoustic version of Stairway to Heaven!

First listen, but perfect to start the weekend.
