What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

That's [expletive deleted] brilliant idea and, shamefully I have let my supplies run out. A wonderful tipple though (perhaps my favourite single malt - I recently was persuaded to buy a 1992 'distiller's edition' which somehow took the edge off which I think rather spoilt it). Note to self - buy some tomorrow!
Actually, I'm feeling a little better - I remembered Gardiner's Beethoven 4 works a charm - and your post made me smile!

Second half of the Messiah. I listened to the first half before the first half and a bit - a bloody phone call intervened - of the Creation.
Indeed Haydn knew as well as Handel how to write grateful music for a Choir!
Performances: Messiah, Pinnock on DG Archiv, and the Creation, Hogwood on L'oiseau Lyre (Decca). Both fantastic in my view. Both HIP but not at the expense of the weight of utterance, or emotional and at times devotional aspects of the music. A fine balance to hold!

Sigmund,
get a good idea of what this is about looking at this site with music
This music is born in the dark, and disappears in the dark. Much like the CD cover is suggesting...
cheers

Possibly the finest reading of this I have ever heard. Sheer magic from Runnicles and the Atlanta symphony orchestra.

Lizzy's finest hour?
Although for me Renegade runs this very close and I'll always have a soft spot for Johny the Fox.
.......... in steps the fox to thunderous applause
my eldest was born 12 years ago about half an hour ago ( if you know what I mean)
and (very) lately I've been drinking in the new house of the pope.

Gian,
I am confused. I see sun, I see clouds and it looks windy. So what is the real Cinzano weather there?
Here I came from a run in 96 F and this Jackson Pollock image describes well how I feel: too tired even to listen to the musica.
Regards,
Haim
