What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

This is by far the best sounding version I have ever heard.

Inspired by the Steve Kuhn post. Nice cover.

My favourite CD of the moment - Giovanni Mirabassi Trio live at Ducs Des Lombards in Paris - excellent jazz piano trio

Excellent live piano trio from this French group.

Last night, after it eventually arrived. Was on order and out of stock with Play.com (£10) for 2 months then saw it on Amazon marketplace for around £5 new, bargain. Gorgeous late night listening.

Where did you see her? I'm now on her mailing list. You got any Jill Scott Huw?

Take care

Hi Diccus,

seen her twice here in Munich, my Mum and better half were in tears when she closed her set with Amazing Grace. Friends saw her at the Royal Festival Hall in London and were equally impressed.

re Jill Scott, have one album but wasn't sufficiently overwhelmed to dig deeper. Well, not enough to move Aretha or Irma Thomas from the shelf.

Huw

Currently on the Ry Cooder / VM Bhatt bandwagon. Probably need some Bach to get me through this afternoon's spreadsheet work!

Sometimes i do keep the player silent as well.
Sometimes it's nice to leave it all for few days and discover it again good as never!

A very strange summer here!
Sunny and hot during the day and heavy storms in the evening.
Heavy rain on my village and sun 2 klms far.
Next monday i start holidays and i hope for sun because i have a lot of work to do here in the house.
3 weeks off!
A dream coming true!

Ciao!

#31 - 38

Some gems here, Lucinda Williams such truth in her voice and lyrics, where music becomes something more.

Weather Report, what a groove.

and Dave Edmunds had my toes a-tappin'

JAMC with the excellent "head on" which the Pixies covered.

not a dud in 31-38.

I really like these "London symphonies" by Haydn. My favourites are 103 "Drumroll" and 104 "London". The problem with this disc is that it has an irritating skipping error from EMI (mentioned on Amazon) in the end of the Menuetto and in the beginning of the Finale of the 104.

Now I just wonder how Beecham compare to e.g. Colin Davis and Jochum in the London symphonies, as Beecham is the only one I have heard so far. Any thoughts from someone?
Posted on: 02 August 2006 by Tam
Dear Rubio,

Sadly I have not heard the Beecham so cannot compare - however he will be next if I buy another set. Personally, the Jochum would be the set I would be hardest pushed to part with, but Davis is very special too (see my Haydn london symphonies thread for fuller comments).
