What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

I don' t buy that. In 24 days you can circle the world twice, do three NAIM upgrades and take your father to Lebanon
Dear Haim!
Three upgrades?
The only thing i did today was "tree upgrade"!
Anyway.....................23 more to go!

That's more like it. Gian, you have your priorities right.
All the best,
Haim

Haim,
this time priorities are decided by the other 2 thirds of the family.
I'm working gladly btw.
I do envy you!
I could really not face running every evening!
But i've spent too many years in swimming pools, basketball fields and spending holidays walking from hut to hut on the mountains.
Sitting here with a good record amuse me the same.
Sometimes more!

I'll post a pic of the "pianting man"!

Ciao!

ROTF,
have you written, or are you about to write the definitive Prog Rock compendium?
You've given us a wonderful A-Z on the prog rock thread itself, and here some more wonderful things that I think would generally be embraced by the term.
Turn your hand to that compendium! Get a whole genre back into vogue!

An evening of Bugge Wesseltoft. Currently FiLM iNG......Really shows how important a hiline is! Even the (very) weird parts make far more sense now.

Hi James
There are several genres that seem to dominate my record collection
1. Half Man Half Biscuit
2. Folk Music (mainly English/Irish)
3. Psych/Prog
4. Classical
I do have quite a few Punk/New Wave records and lots of female vocalists, as well, of course, the mandatory They Might Be Giants and Martha & The Muffins elpees.
Of the three albums above, Only Human is enjoyable but not Amon Duul II's best effort, which IMHO remains Tanz Der Lemmings. I think Ashra's Blackouts and Embryo's Opal, which was the first record released on Ohr (famous for Tangerine Dream), are the best albums by those two groups (of the ones I've heard).
I'll create a Psych/Prog thread and see if there is some interest in any of these groups.
Best regards, Rotf
BTW now listening to

Simon Dupree & the Big Sound had one hit single Kites and then disbanded and reformed as Gentle Giant. On one tour Simon Dupree & the Big Sound's pianist fell ill and a guy named Reg Dwight sat in (not sure I know what happended to him and if he still standing at Vicarage Road).

Emmylou Harris "Luxury Liner" after a 50 km bicycle trip in too hot weather for such an activity. Sigh.

Another from yesteryear brought screaming up to date.
They got so fed up of people doing crap remixes of this track that they did a few themselves. And jolly good they are too.

Remmy Ongala "Songs for the Poor Man".

I am late to this CD, but it is Towner at his best, all guitar!
I also picked this one up after listening to it in the store. The late Leon Thomas singing pop tunes from the Seventies with lush strings! It is quite good, but not as inspiring as "The Creator Has A Master Plan"
Regards,
Anthony

Geoffrey Oryema "Beat the Border". A kind of mix between Ugandan songs and laidback rock. Nice and relaxing music.
