What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Haim, sounds like you're Europe origined, with this excellent choice of music (I LOVE the Telemann and Stanko CD's and most likely "Words of the Angel"...)

If you haven't got them, already, go buy everything from Hille Perl and Los Otros, and try the Biber by Musica Antiqua, as well...

cheers

"Hear, hear!"

One of the advantages of sitting at home with atypical pneumonia:

Solomon Burke "Don't give up on me," followed by Massive Attack "Blue lines," followed by Crowded House, "Woodface," to be followed by some Malcolm Arnold and then some Shostakovich chamber music. Update: got distracted by The Vulgar Boatmen and now Christy Moore has got the DTs

Once I get some energy I will select this afternoon's pile, expecting a couple of new discs on the post as well (Enrico Rava "Tati" and E.S.T. "Viaticum - platinum") The upside of sickness Roll Eyes

Hawkwind - Future Reconstrucitons, remixes by the likes of Astralasia and others who I simply do not recognise. Different (to me) but good ambient type of stuff.

Stefan,

I am from Israel and I live in the US, so Europe is half way for me... I try to stop there everytime I visit Israel.

Thank you for your recommendations. I love Biber and Telemann and I have a lot of music composed by them. Two of my favorites are:

Biber/Romanesca/violin sonatas/ Andrew Manze- violin,Nigel North-lute, John Toll-harpsicord/harmonia mundi HMX2907344.45

Telemann/"Schwanengesang 1733" (Trauermusik des Hamburgischen Burgermeisters Garlieb Sillem), Cantata "Herr, strafe mich nicht in Deinem Zorn"/La Stagione, Michael Schneider, Barbara Schlick, soprano/cpo 999212-2

Best regards,

Haim

Having spent best part of half a day between doctor, hospital and radiology unit (thankfully infection in remission) am now wallowing in The Liberation Music Orchestra's "Not in Our Name."

Powerful stuff. Woody Guthrie had "this machine kills fascists" on his guitar, if only it were so easy for music to heal the woes of this world.
