What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Now I have finished this set and it is indeed very nice! Especially I like the before mentioned Carnaval, and also the Kreisleriana (Claude Arrau), the Kinderszenen (Yves Nat) and the Symphinic Etudes (Alfred Cortot). Now I'm going to invest in the two 4CD Chopin sets from the same label Smile.

I have the same Direct Cut, kuma !

It was a (18th ?) birthday present from my mother who had gone into a record shop saying "listen, my sun is crazy about records. Sell me something that sounds real good"...

Stefan,

What a charming story.

So, when are you going to get a record player? Smile

I use a sharp shashlik stick, when I "play" the record: Hold it firmly, and grind the stick in circles along the spiral: Very natural sound !

cheers

Another new ECM release. Double live concert CD of Eleni Karaindrou. Beautiful, atmospheric film soundtrack music.

First run through was pretty good. Bollani I played on my portable CD at work and then in the car on the way home. A little Jarrett like, it really needs to be played in the main rig but some good mellow stuff on it. Stanko is very similar to the other CD's but maybe a little more free than the last couple, but not by much. It is early evening here, lights are down low, nice glass of Suavignon and I have got it playing loud in the music room at the moment - just right for the end of the working week wind down.

Cheers
Adrian

PS. I also got three other new series ECM's today. This one is very interesting with a clarinet and piano version of Part's Spielgel im Spiegel. It's called Misterioso featuring Alexei Lubimov.

Yefim Bronfman playing Shostakovich Piano concertos 1 & 2. Never quite sure which I like better, this or Dimitri Alexeev on the old Classics for Pleasure recording.
