What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Great albums guys, but I keep coming back to Saint Dominic's Preview, Moondance and, possibly topping the lot, Into the Music.
Peter
PS Zep - Houses of the Holy - what a great album that is - it's just a pity my neighbours are around or I would be very tempted to give it a blast!

Hello ROTF,
Yes, I think 5000 Spirits is a very fine album.
BTW what happend to Mike Heron and Robin Williamson after they disbanded?
Best Regards
Fredrik
Hello Fredrik
They both continued making albums - the only one I own is by Mike Heron Smilin' Men with Bad Reputations, which is excellent and, in fact, made while ISB were still going. I've only heard odd bits of Mike Heron's Reputation and his subsequent groups.
However well worth checking out are albums by original ISB member Clive Palmer - in particulat the album I'm plating right now

COB (Clive's Original Band) - Moyshe Mcstiff and Tartan Lancers of the Sacred Heart
Best regards, Rotf

The thing i like more of "No guru, no method, no teacher" is the fact that the recording is "live".
No trace of "studio" smoothnes in the performance.
And both cd and vinyl are good prints.

Not as live as his performance in the Ulster Hall when the album was released

If I recall the interviews at the time the aspiration of the album was to try and induce a state of meditation in the listener.

Hey Gianluigi,
The very place!! Happy days!!
It doesn't look too grand, but it was always a great wee venue.
Continuing the Belfast tour, just round the corner you'll find the more plush:
Of course you may have to drop into a few pubs along the way....

Having followed the No Guru recommendation and wallowed in a bit of Van, now spinning Calenture by the Triffids. One of the great, lost records of the '80s.

Kim Richey - Rise#54
I saw Kim supported Richard Thompson in Vicars Street and bought this album on the strength of her performance. It did not disappoint. A mix between Lucinda, Suzanne and Patti. Great Stuff

There's another thread about re mastering of Transformer. This for me is a mastering (if it was) nightmare. The songs include on the 2003 greatest hits sound so much better. On the strength of this I've just ordered "Columbia Studio Recordings" to set the matter right from Djangos who have a free postage worldwide offer over €25 which is really great. It means getting this 5 cd box set at €31 or £21.
Free postage and wine I've also ordered
3 Keith Jarrett.
- My Song
- Personal Mountains
- Changeless
from recommendations form Fred Simon and parmenides (Many Thanks)

So is it worth buying - I haven't bought any Dylan since Desire?
Highway 61 Revisited remains my favourite album by Mr D or is it Mr Z?

For Fox Sake - The Fox
Their manager thought the 1970 demo tapes were so good he persauded a record company to release it. It is not bad, but I wish he'd let them polish it up a bit, for fox sake. The group didn't like the title that was chosen, BTW.
It is progressive folk - if that means anything.

Hi Peter!
Of course for a couple (or maybe three) pints of Harp strong.
A couple per pub, i mean.

Only listening to this album once, I think it's good. But Dylan Zimmerman isn't everybodys cup of tea. Of course, his first records were the best...IMHO. Blonde on Blonde, Highway 61, Desire and Blood On the Tracks are my favorites.
