What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Lambchop - Damaged, smacks a little of late night, ambient but there is iron in the lyrics. I think it will take a while to bite.
Next up will be Rattle & Kozena

Tallis Scholars, "Spem in Alium" - first CD I bought, in 1986 (then with little Philips cdp).
Great with m'new XPS2 on the CDS2 - resolves all those multiple parts much the CDPS found hard to reach.

Enjoying the last tastes of summer sunshine in Oslo with some thoroughly enjoyable African salsa.

James,
it was my 3rd!
Currently, Motian, Carter & Frisell - too many distractions, but sounds promising. Will need to listen again later when it's a bit quieter around here.

An excellent CD from the best Danish band (dreamy indie rock). On the other, I hardly know any other good Danish artists. Strange, when I think about all the bands coming out of Sweden (and even Norway).

First spin since seeing her live at the Edinburgh Fringe a month ago. Good fun show with some excellent musicians in a half full small venue.

Felcity Buirski
'Repairs & Alterations' LP
1987 Run River Records
Sophisticated singer songer writer on acoustic guitar with back up musicians, e.g. keyboard & mandolin.
A little bit like a late night slower paced acoustic version of Julia Fordham.
Brilliant music and a good digital recording (suprise suprise).

Is it any good, Huw ?
myself:

Swings pretty well. Man, Motian really publishes in a pace like never before. Must have to do with his decision to stop touring...
cheers

Stefan - Rattle / Kozena is OK, was hoping for a little more but is definitely not poor.
Boy oh boy is this jazz version of Led Zeppelin a blast, I can't stop grinning and tapping my feet at the same time.

Same happened to me, when I heard the Zep/Jazz, for the first time.
Sometimes, there's really original music, coming along.
Yipeeh !

John Zorn , Masada (One/Alef). I tried a few other records of him but this is the first one I like. Sounds good too on my set.

Disc 3 of 6. I'm impressed with the transfer from 8 track tape.
