What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Another Westerberg fan. Alright!
Matt
Had a feeling from some of your postings that you may like PW. Which is your fave album?
diccus
Tough call. Personally I like then all in differing degrees. 14 Songs is great for the most part while Eventually has its moments. Actually Eventually has grown on me over the years. Suicane is good but it almost seems like he is trying too hard to create a commercially sucessful album at times.
After retreating to his basement to record, the albums take on a looser, rougher tone I get into. All good with Come Feel Me Tremble and Mono (OK Grandpaboy strictly speaking) being my favorites with Folker a close second.
Push come to shove I would opt for 14 Songs from his early solo days and Come Feel Me Tremble from the latter recordings. Depending on the day it could go either day. I had the chance to see him at the Tralf in Buffalo a couple of summers ago on his solo tour. It was great, but to see him with a backing band would be something to behold I am sure.

Thanks for that. Maybe i like Suicane because it is veering towards a more commercial sound. He played in London i think last year but i didn't get a chance to see him.

Last night.......... Matt you might like this. It has taken many listens and i like it more each time. Still can't get past the fact that it seems like a really good Lou Reed album

Not too sure about this one. Got it cheap at cdwow and thought I'd give it a bash. Some of the "what seemed innovate drum machine sounds" sound pretty horrible now.

Just "Listened again" to Radio2s Music Never Died documentary ie Buddy Holly's real story. The first time I heard him "That'll Be the Day" I think,I just thought WTF was that, it was so different. I still can't believe he was only around for 18 months as a recording artist. His influence is truly amazing.

Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer - Music for Two. Have just been revisiting some less frequently played CDs to try and free up some space in the rack. Big mistake! Through the new rig, this is a totally different disc and demonstrates synergistic playing of the highest order. Whilst recognising that banjo and acoustic bass may not be everyone's cup of tea, I think you might be surprised.

As you say mate......quality. Mine's on vinyl and havent got a working TT so havent heard it in years. Saw him on this tour (i think) at the Dominion at Tottenham Court Road...............
Inside a broken clock, splashing the wine with all the rain dogs
Taxi, we'd rather walk, huddle a doorway with the rain dogs
For I am a rain dog, too
Oh, how we danced and we swallowed the night
For it was all ripe for dreaming
Oh, how we danced away all of the lights
We've always been out of our minds
The rum pours strong and thin, beat out the dustman with the rain dogs
Aboard a shipwreck train, give my umbrella to the rain dogs
For I am a rain dog, too
Oh, how we danced with the Rose of Tralee
Her long hair black as a raven
Oh, how we danced and you whispered to me
You'll never be going back home
Oh, how we danced with the Rose of Tralee
Her long hair black as a raven
Oh, how we danced and you whispered to me
You'll never be going back home
