What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

I almost like all types of music, but opera is something I have problems getting into. It is mainly due to the way of singing that can be a bit tiring for me. One clear exception is Bizet's Carmen (+ probably some Mozart operas) which I find very tuneful and uplifting! It's probably the tunes that I like the most, but the singing is also nice from time to time.

Last night of the proms on R3
Shame about Danny Boy (such a nauseating dreary dirge) and the upcoming national anthem (less nauseating but still a dreary dirge) but the rest of it is great.
Steve.

First listen. Sounds light and all over the place. I was easily distarcted, but that could be my solo mood. I will give it another try tomorrow.

Must say that I have my difficulties with his ECM debuit. Although I love his work, I'm not 100 percent happy with this one (inconsistent, light weight, exhausted, carpet store sound). Much more with the "I visionari" CD, few weeks ago.
cheers
Stefan
The thing I do not like about this CD is there seems to be some strange noise (other than the piano) throughout it, in time with the music.
It is not percussion per se but almost like it and annoys me. Do you hear the same.

Adrian,
This is a typical problem with a high end system (252 and up), you hear everything. On the other hand, with my NAIT you hear only music...
Seriously, I had no immediate urge to listen to Bollani again, but I promise to do so and report.
Have a good Sunday.

Dear Haim,
What Messiaen is she playing? (I'm currently working my way through Peter Hill's survey but have only got as far as the bird catalogue.)

Gian my friend,
I think you will change your mind real fast after one winter in Chicago. You are invited. I will let you shovel the driveway in the fresh air anytime.
You know those people from the Middle East (and I am one of them), they see a cloud formation in the sky and they start already shivering.
I am reading now and enjoying very much Shalev's 'The Blue Mountain'.
Regards,
Haim
