What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Donald Runnicles (ably aided by the Atlanta SO and wonderful soprano Hei-Kyung Hong) does it again - quite how he manages to make such a cliche ridden work sound so fresh is beyond me.

Huw,

I could not find it.
Perhaps you can get a copy in NY and bring it to Chicago?...

Do you have that one? How about you, Stefan, Adrian?

After Haydn's symphonies 100 and 101 (from Davis and the Concertgebouw - with these two I can really hear why Fredrik rates this set so highly), it is now Krauss conducting act 3 of Siegfried with Astrid Varnay once again singing Brunnhilde (again opposite Windgassen). Listening to this set makes me wish again that it was the one testament were releasing in stereo as I prefer the Krauss reading to Keilberth by quite some margin.

Earlier it Oramo and the CBSO with Sibelius's 6th and 7th symphonies (see other thread).

Hamish and Dougal, "You'll hava had your tea...!" [Radio Four].

And shortly the Brahms Clarinet Quintet. Kell and the Busch Quartet.

The dust is settling from the move, but I am on 6 to 2 (last two weeks and one to come: Aaargh!), and my sleep patern simply refuses to comply without a day or two off to recouperate. Naturally I wake up about 5 am on holiday, but twelve months of working 2 to 10 pm have meant it takes two or three days of holiday to become normal again.

Fredrik,

Good to hear from you again. I Hope your move was as smooth and enjoyable as... a musical movement (alegro for a fast move).

I don't know if you noticed, but we lost the Lebanese thread, probably because of lack of participation by you.
