What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Gabriela - El Viaje, quite interesting but just a little too much Bill Frisell

Xavier Rudd - Food in the belly, hmm

Very good!

This one is really growing on me, Fred Simon one of our own parishioners, solo piano playing Beach Boys numbers.

As with Dreamhouse, repeated listens brings out many layers and moods.

Now playing again - this is a wonderful disc. Anyone with a fondness for chamber music should give this a go.

Larry

Excuse the laziness on my part - I haven't come across this album / box set - would you mind letting me know when it was released and what it comprises - cd / vinyl only or both?

Thanks

Peter

It's on a lable called Alpha, which is new to me. I think all the necessary information can be found here.

I really like the way the concertos have been stripped down for a small, travelling band. Hope you like it.

Steve Earle - Guitar Town. Yeehaah!

Trying to finish up a report, but constantly being distracted by Rogue's Gallery, a collection of nautical songs collected by Gore Verbinski and Johnny Depp as some mad project related to the Pirates of the Carribean franchise. It's only on my iPod, but 'tis fantastic. Do not play in polite company, Louden Wainwright's good ship Venus is a hoot.

C'mon all yer lubbers and hoist the jolly roger!

P.S. For those of a serious musical bent, note that Bill Frisell was involved in pulling this together.

Dear Steve,

How do you find this album? I have heard one song from it (from the latest Songlines magazine)and I found it very interesting! I have also heard the "SU" album by Mercan Dede, and I absolutely liked it. But I'm even more curious about "Breath, the last album in his trilogy.

Well I have only just got it - first listen last night. I think that the Songlines review is very fair - "this record is a beguiling triumph". I would say if you like Su then you should get Breathe. Hope that helps Smile

Dear Haim!
A small car for everyday duties.
I think i'm satisfied now.
I have enough space, good and safe driving and a lot of kilometers with few fuel.
And a working heating system!

I think that my next upgrade will be a pair of decent speakers.
The stereo set is good but the four Ford cones make me shiver while listening!

Thanks for tip!
I'm finishing a book written by an italian oncologist that demonstrate the link between brain and cancer.
Stress and a bad life and illness.
A translation of the title should come like "The anarchist brain" but i did non find an english translation of it.

Thanks a lot again!

The Scottish Lute - Ron McFarlane, Dorian Recordings

Lovely for quiet listening, and dare I say, you can read with it in the background too. A surprisingly rich trove of folk instrumentals. I obtained via e-mail order from UHF, the Canadian audiophile 'zine.
