What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Stefan, Huw,
Do you have it?
Just too good to be missed.

Martha & The Muffins - Far Away In Time
Superb album - although I think This Is The Ice Age is possibly even better.
Must have a listen, thanks for the info. Steve

Good job Gian. We don't want you to spend the whole day listening to music in the car...

Locked in the car you mean.
No, my friend is a very smart guy and did understand.
We fixed the ducks (Adam's slang!) this morning and everything is ok now.
This is the program for the evening:

An old movie by Master Ermanno Olmi.

Thanks Steve, just put this on myself thanks to you.
When it came out I asked in a record shop if I could get the version that had twelve foil wrapped mini cds - one for each track. Glad I went for the box with just one 70 minute Spiritualized tablet in the end!

It has just reached the end and there is the strange sound of silance everywhere - this needs solving!

Got that too, though probably haven't played it since oh, about 1990!
I think 'what are you listening to now?' has turned into what are you listening to next!

Three generations of French composers framed by Faure's Imromptus. In between we have Messiaen's Preludes and Ravel's 'Gaspard de la nuit'
I find the piano playing of this 20th centuey lyrical music very much to my liking and I think that Lonquich is doing an excellent job of retaining its French flavor.
Stefan, you also should listen to Mesiaen's Quartet for End of time.
I am off to the city,
Regards,
Haim

Is this on cd? Do you know if it has ever been released on vinyl as I've been looking for it?

Dr Strangely Strange - Heavy Petting
Angie Palmer - Tales of Light and Darkness

Bugger!
Thanks Ian. It was playing in the Linn room at the recent Heathrow show and sounded great. I don't have a cd player, though.
First time I've ever wanted to buy a piece of music and not been able to get it on vinyl!
Time to rethink my stategy.

Just watched and listened to Pink Floyd PULSE DVD for the first time which was amazing. I was very pleased to see Tim Renwick on stage - a brilliant session musician who was resonsible for much of the popularity of AL Stewart's 'Year of the cat' single/album.
