What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

I'm not a particular fan of everything on the Naim label, but this one is great. Music and sound go together without distracting from the most important: The music. Only have this since today. Well done !
cheers
Stefan
Stefan,
Fred's second album, 'Dream House' is as good, and you have a chance to hear Fred's wife playing the drums in it.

"The Buzz: Genesis Reunion Imminent?
There's been a growing amount of chatter this week about a possible reunion of Genesis. The band has officially been on hiatus since 1998. Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel, both former lead vocalists for the popular progressive rock group, are both talking about the possibility that the band may reunite sooner rather than later.
Gabriel, a founding member of the band who left in 1975 to pursue a solo career, tells Rolling Stone that "The odds are better now than before. We're going to have the conversation." Collins, the band's drummer who replaced Gabriel as lead vocalist tells the Reuters news service, "If it happens, I'll be there," playing drums and leaving the lead vocals to Gabriel. Guitarist Steve Hackett told the Chicago Sun-Times that he has been contacted by Genesis management and says, "I do think it will happen."
If it does happen, it'll be the first time Genesis has performed together since recording a new version of "The Carpet Crawlers" for a 1999 greatest hits compilation. The last time Gabriel performed with the group was in a one-time-only concert in 1982. " That was late 2005.
It matters not where they play, I WILL be there.

Ah Genesis at their very best with the best drummer they ever had, John Mayhew, why did he leave.
Peter Gabriel: Lead Voice, Flute, Accordion, Tambourine and Bass Drum
John Mayhew: Drums, Percussion, Voices
Anthony Phillips: Acoustic 12-string, Lead Electric, Dulcimer, Voices
Anthony Banks: Organ, Piano, Mellotron, Guitar, Voices
Michael Rutherford: Acoustic 12-string, Electric Bass, Nylon, Cello, Voices
Trespass is my favourite Genesis album by far. Though I can still enjoy ones with Peter Gabriel on them.

Finishing off the Harnoncourt/COE set of Beethoven symphonies with symphony no. 9 "Choral". I really like this music, and the choir sounds nice to me. But so far I don't have anything to compare the performance with.
My favourite symphonies from the set were no. 3, 4 and especially no. 7.

Miles Davis _ In A Silent Way
I bought a few Miles from recommendations on Tam's thread a while back. This was the first to arrive from Django's - very impressive on first listening.

Listening to samples of her new album 'birds', it does sound rather beautiful. Have you caught her live, i see she played in newcastle at the Cluny recently, wish i'd known.

"Biggus"
,
No I've not seen here live. I just saw her recommended on some thread and listed to some clips.
I bought 'Drive' first and on the strength of that ordered 'Beatiful collision' above and 'Birds' which hasn't arrived yet.
Must check if she's heading north at all.(edit: too late been and gone
)
