What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Bearing my limited listening to these in mind, both Drive and Baautiful Collision are equally good so buy whichever you find the cheapest !

No he's sounding sublime through your old trusty 202. Tuesday is 52-day.

A rather disappointing collection really - I'm sure there must be better compilations of Man available. The recording quality is mediocre especially on the live parts.

Driving home toward the weekend, replaying the track: 'Jona che visse nella balena'.

Gian, at least that guy kept warm in the belly. Snow melted in the sun, but it is still very cold and windy.

Gian,

This is for our Turkish friend, Orhan Pamuk, winning the Nobel Prize for Literature this week.

This year he is a visiting professor at Columbia University in NY. Three month a ago I went to hear him speak and read from his books. That was a treat.

Yes, Stefan.

I like it a lot. That is one of the first Jordi Savall / Montserrat Figueras that I got.
Do you have a hybrid disc (and if yes, why?) or is it just the image?

Haim

PS.

Sent your pictures to Tal in Boston and she was very impressed. Keep up the good work.

No hybrid, that's just the image. Must say, though that I have no preference (yet) for hyprid / non-hybrid. Usually, there is no choice...

Stefan
PS Thanks for the compliments, remind me to send some REAL nice ones...

I have wanted to read one of his books for a while, but I wonder if I should start with "My Name Is Red", "Snow" or "The White Castle". Which one would you recommend for a Pamuk beginner?

Best regards

Kate Bush - Lionheart

Beethovens symphony no. 3 "Eroica" (Furtwangler, VPO), the Coriolan Overture (Furtwangler, BPO) and the Leonore Overture (Furtwangler, VPO) all performed during the war. The "Eroica" was performed in December 1944 and sounds dramatic. From the first listening I think I prefer Harnoncourt. Maybe beacuse it sounds more optimistic and more beautiful, but I guess there are some real tough competitors out there.

haim,

i haven't listend to all the samples of the cd you recommended yet but i recognized "the stars and stripes forever". Smile

the kind of cd i'm searching maybe isn't the "classic" marching band sousa sound but marching bands playing well known songs. i. e. a few days here in vienna i saw a brass band playing abba songs which sounded great. do you know something like this?

still have to look at the web sites with the detailed information and would love to see such a marching band life. Big Grin

thanks a lot and happy greetings to your daughter from vienna too!

bye,
michael

Dixie Chicks - Dreadful name for a group, awful album cover photo, ropey production and yet there is something intriguing about the lead vocalist's voice which keeps me returning to this record.
