What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

"Astrakhan Cafe" by Anouar Brahem. This one I like even more than "Le Pas Du Chat Noir". It is so relaxing to listen to this timeless music. Tomorrow I have to check my other favourite "Conte de L'incroyable Amour" again.

Sibelius symphonies 2 and 3 from Rattle and the CBSO (something of a disappointment, to put it mildly).
Earlier it was Paul Lewis playing Beethoven's opus 31 sonatas (great news for Lewis fans such as myself: not only are we getting the second half of his live cycle, starting on Monday in Edinburgh, possibly it has been elsewhere first, but the second volume of his survey is due out a week on monday - all 3 discs worth).
regards, Tam

Anouar Brahem "Conte de L'incroyable Amour". This is probably my favourite album by Anouar Brahem. Soul-calming music that should be on prescription in the stressful days of our time. I simply love the interaction between the clarinet and the oud. Sublime! I have borrowed the Brahem albums from the library, and I have decided to order this and "Astrakahn Cafe". "Le Pas Du Chat Noir" is also excellent, but maybe has a sadder feeling to it. It also lacks the clarinet, but the combiantion of the oud, the piano and the accordion is also very beautiful.

It's very nice to walk the city and find out that you can still buy something with only some coins.
Paper for books seems instead to suffer the same ups of oil, gold and diamonds.

Have just listened to a few of their samples and they sound so far up my street they are knocking on the door, coming in and putting on the kettle and they know where the chocolate biccies are hidden.
Where did you buy it from?

Hi,
I'll tell you where if you reveal where the biccies are!
I bought their other CD's first 'Drunkard's Prayer' and 'Films for Radio', both are available from Amazon in the UK or from the often cheaper marketplace sellers - I use Caimen a lot and find them to be good if not the fastest.
'Ohio' seems not to be available from Amazon UK but I just ordered it from amazon.com since I already knew I liked them.
All three CD are good so start with any of them and I predict you'll end up with all three - sorry

Espen,
Nothing wrong with sad music. On the contrary, sad music, beside its beauty, somehow reaches deeper into the soul and leaves a larger affect on us..
I know that eventually you will get Brahem's Le Pas du Chat Noire. You will have no choice, since all the trips to the library to borrow it again and again will tire you...
