What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Hi Wolf!
Do you have "Drumming" on Deutsche Grammophon?
It turns bananas into kites!

Ps: just watch "clapping music" on his site

Have just listened to a few of their samples and they sound so far up my street they are knocking on the door, coming in and putting on the kettle and they know where the chocolate biccies are hidden.
Where did you buy it from?

Hi,
I'll tell you where if you reveal where the biccies are!
I bought their other CD's first 'Drunkard's Prayer' and 'Films for Radio', both are available from Amazon in the UK or from the often cheaper marketplace sellers - I use Caimen a lot and find them to be good if not the fastest.
'Ohio' seems not to be available from Amazon UK but I just ordered it from amazon.com since I already knew I liked them.
All three CD are good so start with any of them and I predict you'll end up with all three - sorry![]()
Ian
If your passing durham pop in for a cuppa and i'll give you the key to the chockie bickie cupboard. You might have to fight the ankle biters for it tho.
Cheers for the info

An excellent Beethoven symphony no. 4 and the best symphony no. 6 "Pastoral" I have heard so far. A classic recording by Bruno Walter and the CSO.

The Jayhawks - Rainy Day Music - came across it in Borders today while my umbrella dripped all over the place. Very appropriate title for London the past couple of days & a Jayhawks album I didn't know existed! Hope it's a good 'un.

I had a new friend over that likes jazz and R&B I put on an old LP Sassy Swings The Tivoli- Sarah Vaughn and Diana Krall - From This Moment ON and Steely Dan Aja.
good time and good conversation. Sadly he's had some mishaps with his vinyl. Many of them are partially ruined due to a heater that was turned on or they're in storage garage that leaks water. so sad.

Mahler symphony no. 5 performed by Pierre Boulez and the VPO. I like this symphony more and more; especially the three first movements. Boulez's approach is is quite detailed and tight, and I still prefer the more emotional reading by Bernstein and the VPO and especially Gary Bertini's. In the future I would like to get hold of Chailly/RCG and maybe Karajan or Barshai.

Beethoven symphonies no. 7 and no. 8 from the 1963 cycle of Karajan and the BPO. I think no. 7 is my favourite Beethoven symphony and this recording I find just fantastic! No. 8 is also nice, but not not on the same level as no. 7.

No, you are right. No. 8 is on a considerably higher level than no.7.
