What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

The Neville Brothers - Yellow Moon

Good one Steve - some astonishing tracks on that album with Aaron's voice at its spine tingling best. Must dig it out and give it a spin.

The group Jeff Beck copied Hi Ho Silver Lining from, the group that spawned Third World War and Atomic Rooster - one of the 60s best kept secrets: The Attack.

Shawn Lane: Powers of Ten; Live!

Amazing guitarist. His other album 'Tri-tone Fascination' is also good.

He has recorded many albums with Jonas Hellborg as well. Would recommend 'Personae' and 'Time is the Enemy' as well.

Some of his CD's may be hard to find, but after his death in 2003 his mum Diane sells them on his website www.shawnlane.com

PS: Haim, you know what you have to do.

Yes Stefan.

I know exactly what I have to do. I am going to the house of Jasmin's parents, a place I have been many times, and tell the family personally that Stefan loves their daughter's singing.

As we said before, the world is real small, and perhaps it is my turn to find a German musician with whom you grew up.

Any chance, Stefan, that you went to school with... Hille Perl?

Regards,

Haim

Apologies for dropping into your conversation Haim & Stefan but you may know this guy:

Mr John Surman.

I went to school with him and played a terrible guitar / banjo in his first school boy Jazz band before he took off into the stratosphere and the rest us returned to a more mundane future. We keep in touch but only rarely

Hey Geoff,

This is great. Could you have told growing up that John Surman was going to end up a famous musician, or was he just one of the bunch at the time?

Have you seen him perform lately?

Haim

Sure I know this record - and I like it ! Funny that you know all these people, Geoff and Haim. I only know Peter Orloff. But HIS music sucks...
