What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Gianluigi,

Ref: Kenny Burrell

Start with these three classics, and see how you get on. He has produced a lot of records over the years, and a number of them are excellent.

Nic

Gian,
This is a great album with Burell

btw my sister in law was in Verona last week and fell in love with the Italian easy going way of life. No one in a rush she said. Children always out with parents and usually grandparents. She painted quite an idyllic picture of it.

Regards

Maurice Durufle : Sacred Choral & Organ Works (vol2) Naxos

Messe cum jubilo, op 11

Prelude, adagio et choral varie sur le theme du Veni Creator, op 4

Suite, op 5

'Gramaphone' said:
"This pair of Naxos CDs is noteworthy, essential listening, I would venture to suggest, for anyone who, like me, professes a deep love for Durufle's music."

And I have to agree - it is superb, and played on just the right sort and period of instrument, the Cavaillé-Coll Organ of Saint-Antoine des Quinze-Vingts Church, Paris.

Wonderful value for just £4.99! RECOMMENDED.

Thanks a lot John!
I'll be home till the end of the month and i'll have time to comb the only shop that last in town.
The other one is closing.
I've told the owner that to hold a record shop one should listen to music, but he did not listened to me!

I'm happy that your sister in law had a good time.
My father did work in Verona for years and the city is nice and hide a lot of wonderful corners.
I even had a friend from Galway (just in front of the Aran Islands) working in the Foreign Languages and Literatures departement of the local University.
Btw italian life style is not so idyllic as at a first sight one could imagine (this happens to all the tourists that see countries for the first time for a short time and happened to me when visiting northern Europe countries as well).
I don't want to discourage people from visiting Italy but be shure that life in small northern towns like mine is different and harder, much harder than other areas of the country.
I hope that your sister in law will be back and take a trip in regions like Tuscany.
Sicily and Sardinia are wonderful in summer!

Diccus.
If Mr. Materazzi would have told me the same things about me and my mother he would not have stand again.
Italian footbal players are too rich, arrogant and they all are fond of fascists and nazis.
The old champions were gentlemen but this is a bunch of ignorant little boys.
And i'm sorry they won the cup.
